Black Desert Online (SEA Server) - Brief Review

Recently Black Desert Online has launched its server for South East Asia. I get on board and play the game the whole weekend to see how the game is. Black Desert Online is an MMORPG and it's not a new game. It has been around for quite some times but its server previously does not include SEA countries and there's no way players from those countries can play it. I'm not a big fan of MMORPG, the last one I played few years ago was Order and Chaos but it is still the game I would play. You can view my first play video at the end of this post, it was the first 20 minutes into the game and it was kind of easy.

MMORPG for those who don't know yet is Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. It's a combination of multiplayer game and RPG elements. This Black Desert Online is an open world MMORPG. The world in this game is so huge. Currently there are 5 servers available with each server serve a different place or region in the Black Desert Online world. All those region have it own cities and things inside it. It might take a long time to explore the whole area in one server because you need to level up based on the recommendation there to be able to fight monsters in each area.

Before you download this game and jump right straight into it you need to know that this game is free to download but not free to play. To be able to enter the game and play it, you need a game pass. There's two way you can get the pass, first is to buy the package offered in the website and second to ask and maybe beg a guest pass from your friend who already bought the package. That guest pass will be valid for 7 days, most probably the intention is to get players to try the game first before decided to really spend money on it.

If you asked, if you need to spend real money on this then the answer is definitely yes! To buy the packages offered in their website you need to buy Acoin and to buy Acoin you need to use real money. Do register an account first in their website (https://account.sea.playblackdesert.com/Member/Join/) before you buy those Acoin. No, Acoin is not a cryptocurrency even though is sounded like one... LOL...

There are 4 packages you can buy and each one of them have different items included in them. If you buy the Limited Package and above you can get a pet, you can choose either to have a cute cat, dog or a hawk. This pet you can only get one and one time only, so choose wisely. It will follow your character that you assigned it to all the time in the game. Some of them have ability to help you with things. I choose Brown Guide Hawk because I cannot choose between dogs and the casts, I want them all! LOL....

Anyway, after you downloaded the game, bought a package and you're ready to go into the game. But before you can run around and hacking and slashing the enemies you need to choose a class and create your character. As with any games with this feature, you will spend a lot of time on this, I can guarantee you that. Even to choose a class you will have a hard time to choose which one but one good thing is that you have a few more slots to create other characters so don't worry too much on whether you've choose the right class or creating the most good looking character. There are 7 classes you can choose from currently, Warrior, Ranger, Sorceress, Berserker, Tamer, Wizard and Witch. Each of those classes have their own advantages and disadvantages and these things will cause you to spend some time to decide which one you want to be.

The first thing you will do in this game is to go through the tutorial, typical for this kind of game although all the basics is quite easy to figure out. There's no option to opt out not to play the tutorial, you just have to. Playing all the tutorial quests can get you easily up to some levels. This is good as you will get a lot of items from the quests. You can watch this tutorial in my first play video at the end of this post.

MMORPG game typically is like a fantasy life simulation where you play your character to do all the things that is almost like real life. It's the same for this Black Desert Online. You will be living your virtual life in it, sets in the medieval era.

After an hour playing this game I was already at level 16!

There are many things you can do in this game apart from hacking and slashing the enemies. You can go fishing, crafting, collecting resources, trading, buying a house and many more. You can also create a guild or join an existing one with some benefits and perks.

I managed to figured out how to get the fishing pole and go fishing but it quite difficult to catch the fish

After a long time of not playing MMORPG game, this one feels and looks fun to play. I've been playing for a few days now and the best part of this kind of game is that there's a lot of things to learn and to figure out. Even if you have figure out something it will be related to other things that you need to get first before you can do it. Even to get a horse or a donkey you need to do the quest related to it before you can ride one.

There's a lot of quests and challenges that you can play as you go along. They're good to get your character level up fast. Apart from that there are some events which you can fulfill to get special items or extra things. Apart from the Acoin to buy the package you also need other currency for the in-game purchase or trading. Two important currency are the pearl and silver coin. Pearl you have to buy it using Acoin and can be used to buy things like expanding your item slot and increasing how much weight you can carry. As for the silver coin, you can gather it from killing the animals and the creatures you find around the map, there are a lot of them. The silver coins mostly used to buy things from the traders and to trade in the market place.

If you're interested to play this kind of game, go ahead and jump in. It's fun to play in a long period of time but it will require you to spend real money not only for starting but probably as you go on, especially when you feel you need some quick resources like using the pearl to expand your item slots which is very limited. Due to the many things you can do in this game you might not get bored for quite some times playing it.
