The Masochist Challenge rules are:
- No damage
- No armor upgrades
- X-Buster Only
And as a bonus, I try to find and execute the fastest possible route that still allows me to sneak by without taking damage.
I really wanted to save the best Maverick stage for last in X5.
By far my favorite stage in the game. And it's not even close. I've been whining a lot during this challenge, but I don't have a bad word to say about Mattrex's stage.
Except for Alia who is even more talkative than usual, and it really does kill the flow at times. But that's nothing we haven't gotten used to yet in X5.
It's long, it's varied, it's got multiple paths, it has a lot of different gimmicks - and not to mention the most awesome boss in the entire series, save for Zero.
Mattrex is a fucking fire tyrannosaurus, what else do you want.
In general, fire bosses in the X series have a tendency to be awesome - except for Flame Mammoth who follows Capcom's strict "Fat people are useless" code.
The stage starts off fun and works its way up from there. There's a lot of stuff here where going fast is a challenge in and of itself - and going fast without taking a hit is in a league of its own.
There's not a lot I can do to speed things up with the waves of fire section, but some fancy stuff here and there may save a frame or two.
In the second area, there are two paths available; one with the Ride Armor, and one without. Those that have been following my stuff for a bit longer know that I've sworn against using the Ride Armors in any X game unless it's absolutely mandatory, so my choice here is easy.
Luckily, that's the path with the Mega Man 2 tribute in the form of a fun dragon miniboss, so the Ride Armor-less path actually makes for a more fun path in regards to this challenge.
I love the stage so much, I really wanted the recording to be good. So this took several, several and again several recording attempts to get right.
In the end, it was all good because I got to know the stage more intimately than I know my innermost feelings.
So it was all peachy.
Thanks for watching!
Good shit, yo. Best song in X5, too.

I recorded this earlier. I'm working my way through the chapter. I ate berries. They were good.

Berries are good. As is coffee.
