Retro Console - SEGA GENESIS - 1989

in gaming •  7 years ago  (edited)

The Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive[b] in regions outside of North America, is a 16-bit home video game console developed and sold by Sega. The Genesis was Sega's third console and the successor to the Master System. Sega released the console as the Mega Drive in Japan in 1988, followed by North America as the Genesis in 1989.

So many great games!

Don't forget the pre Sega Saturn - 32x expansion module! Virtua Racing anyone?

Oh my goodness, I was waiting for this post! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Genesis!!! I emulate it these days but still play it! Comix Zone, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Streets of Rage 3 (people say the second one is the best but I disagree), Mortal Kombat 3 Ultimatum, Vectorman 1&2, True Lies, Zero Tolerance (3D Shooter!), RockNRoll Racing (like twisted metal), Virtua Racing, Battle Toads, TMNT Fighters and so many more...Goddamn, this machine was a beast! The sound it produced with that Yamaha synthesizer! Ohh! I actually skipped the whole nintendo revolution because of this console! Awesome post man. Brings back memories.

I am glad you liked the post! I haven't played some of the games in your list so I will check them out. That Yamaha chip had such cheesy FM synth sounds it was like an early Sound Blaster, but totally unique. I loved the NBA Jam games, Terminator 2 Judgement Day and Forgotten Worlds to name a few. I think I will have to do some posts on these games! Virtua FIghter for 32x was great too!

  • The commercial are timeless! +1

I am starting to seriously miss that era. Put on some Nirvana or Underworld and play some fighting games with beers and friends!

Ah yes we gotta be playing that at the CryptoPub north location! I remember working at toys r us when this was popular and they had one on a stand you could play. God in so much shit getting caught playing that while I was supposed to be working.

Now you can play them freely at the Crypto Pub!

I grew up as a Nintendo kid because at the time, we could only afford one console per generation and since we first got a NES, we naturally upgraded to a SNES. However, that didn't stop me from playing the Genesis at my friends' house and I even remembered most of them were wealthy enough to own both a SNES and a Genesis and they all seemed to like both equally.

While I enjoyed the console, it wasn't such a huge part of my childhood so I didn't actually pursue a Genesis collection when my love for retro games resurfaced... that is until my wife found her family's Genesis in an old box and just gave it to me since she knew how much of a retrogaming nerd I was (thank you dear).

Let's just say I've been doing A LOT of Genesis catching up since then.

Thanks for the post @sequentialvibe. Now excuse me while I go build some new memories. ;)
