Role Playing Games and The Elder Scrolls Series Part I

in gaming •  7 years ago

In a world where magic and sorcery exist, in a world where you can be the one they call "the savior", in a world where you can be an assassin doing things for the greater good or you can be the dragonborn, the dragon slayer. Its a world where you can be whoever you want to be, it is the world of role playing games (the offline ones, not the onlines).

I started playing the genre of RPG (role playing games) when I was 10 years old. I'm not saying that I'm an expert when it comes to RPG genre but I can say that I am a fan. I may have started playing the genre when it was 2010, when games like TES V, Fallout New Vegas, Mass Effect 2 etc., was released, I actually started from the 90's, games like, Diablo II, Baldurs Gate II, which for me was the hardest and confusing game in the genre, and the game that really captured my attention was the Bethesda's third installment of the The Elder Scrolls series, Morrowind, although the game was released in 2002, its graphics at that time, according to some game critics, was the best of all the games in its era, which in my opinion was true, it will be discussed in my next post, anyway, that game really brought me to this genre.

The wold of Morrowind is very vast, there are many quest that you can take part, aside from the quest, there's one thing that that this game really stood out from the rest, the depth of the quest, each quest has its own unique storyline, which made the game really unique. The open world adventure of this game is quite hard if you don't know how to balance and distribute your stats according to your play style, my first character was a Nord, that was focused on One Handed and Archery (I was a fool for trusting the archery in this game, its really awful). My first quest was to go a town called Balmora and meet a man named Caius Cosades and nope, I didn't went to that town instead I roamed up the map until I met some interesting flying creature, at first I thought it wasn't a hostile mob but it started screaming so I panicked and immediately equipped my dagger, the problem is, I don't know how to equip one (this is the perk of not paying attention at the beginning of the game), so I ran and ran, till I came across some violet colored buildings, and I thought I can take some shelter there, but I was wrong, I came across a flame atronach which in my current level, one of the hardest creature to dealt with, and yes I died. It was one of the best moment I have when I played that game, there are still more but I'm afraid, it will take time before I even finished writing all of them. Anyway, I beat the game when I reached level 40, actually I can finished the game early but I didn't for I want to explore more of this masterpiece. I want to experience everything this game has to offer and I didn't, its way too hard for me to achieve 100% completion, one quest will trigger more quest, more quest meaning more places to explore to think that this game doesn't have the famous FAST TRAVEL, which added complexity to the game, though, you can travel by using the Silt Strider and boats but you cant really fast travel from one location to another that easily in comparison to the modern RPG games. Although this game really sucks when it comes to its combat system, I understand that this game implemented the infamous, dice based combat system, though I can't really explain it as a whole, but its really amazing considering all the efforts of the developers poured in this masterpiece. You will really be lost in this game, considering the amount of skills that this game offered, there are many of them, illusion, conjuration, restoration, I cant name all of them but there are tons of them in the
game. Overall this game for me really kickstarted the rise of RPG genre in the world of gaming.

I dont own the pics because all of the screenshots was lost when my netbook diead months ago.
