THE Console Wars Begin: Who Will Come Out on Top?

A new generation of video game consoles has arrived! Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4 have officially been released to the public, and both have been met with success, having sold millions of units during their first months on the market. In spite of their recent successes, both companies know that they can never rest on their laurels, as competition in the video game industry is fierce—and new competitors are right around the corner.

Microsoft (Xbox One X)
Tech giant Microsoft has made a play for your living room with its Xbox One X gaming console. Packing more power than any other video game system in existence, it’s also compatible with Windows 10, which means you can stream movies from your PC to your TV. Microsoft is all-in on Xbox and is working hard to establish itself as a dominant player in console gaming; don’t be surprised if it releases an even more powerful device soon. But is it enough to beat Sony (PS4 Pro) and Nintendo (Switch)? We think not.

Sony (PlayStation 4 Pro)
PlayStation 4 Pro (previously known as Neo) is Sony’s latest entry into console wars. It will offer superior graphics and performance to Xbox One S, but it has been criticized for being too expensive for its benefits. Priced at $399, gamers will not only have to pay more than their competitors but also purchase a 4K display separately in order to take advantage of PS4 Pro’s better graphical output. The launch date is slated for November 10th, 2016. For those who already own a PS4, there will be no reason to upgrade unless they want access to VR or 4K streaming capabilities.

Nintendo (Switch)
Nintendo came out strong with a 2-in-1 console that’s powerful, portable, and fun. If you’re looking for a great tech upgrade, but don’t have enough space in your home for a big TV and games console, then it might be worth your while to pick up a Switch. Its 32 GB of internal storage is also an upgrade from previous models, letting you carry more games with you at any given time. It comes with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as well, so you can get right into some serious gaming action. And while its price tag might make it seem like something only tech enthusiasts will invest in, we think there are plenty of casual gamers who would enjoy taking their games on the go.
