I wrote a "first impressions" blog about this game a few days ago and mostly had great things to say about it. I hate to say it but I am going to have to go back on a few of my initial reactions of awe towards this game because although I still think it is decent, it really isn't that great of a game.

I had previously said that I felt this was a "Metroidvania" game in that there are powerups that you get along the way that encourage you to revisit areas that you had already cleared and with new powers, would have access to areas that you weren't able to reach before. I'm going to retract that statement because these areas are few and far between and therefore this game is pretty damn linear. Sure you can go back, but the rewards that you get for doing so are rather meaningless and therefore there is very little incentive to actually do this. Most of the time returning to old areas is also a chore because the landscape is constantly changing.

At many points in the game you will complete some rather simple puzzles and then the world around you jumps up and down as if the entire map was one gigantic machine (which I suspect it actually is) and therefore, the areas behind you that you already cleared don't even have the same topography anymore. This combined with the fact that the rewards for finding the previously inaccessible items are rather meaningless makes backtracking just a pain in the ass more than something that you ever find yourself ever wanting to do.
Another downside of the game in my mind is the combat. You'll get some upgrades over time that you purchase with some sort of green currency, but I've not found and real practical application for any of these upgrades and even though I suspect I am halfway through the game now, I resort to smack-smack-dodge.... smack-smack-dodge over and over. There really isn't any need to do anything else unless your enemy is armored and then you have to do a charged power-punch... then you smack-smack-dodge after that.

As far as combat is concerned, for the most part it just isn't fun and it also isn't necessary outside of gathering a few of the green in-game currency for weapon upgrades which I already explained for the most part are useless. Therefore, after a while I found myself simply avoiding combat particularly with the larger enemies that are not difficult and tend to be very slow. You can just sprint around them and jump to higher ground where they either can't or wont pursue you. Since there is no XP there is no reason to grind or even to engage in these battles. Thus far I have only found a single area what you could not progress through without killing all the enemies in an area so again, combat is just kind of lame.

Mostly, what I have discovered is that this game is more of a puzzle game where you have to redirect electricity or whatever it is in order to unlock the paths that lie ahead. The puzzles are not difficult either and I suppose that is a good thing. If I wanted to play The Witness (and I don't) I would play that.
The one good thing that is remaining is that the story contains zero dialogue so it is up to you to piece together what the story here actually is and it is because of this and only this that I will continue playing this game to completion. I want to see what the story is here and hope that it has some sort of wonderful "wow!" moment when it all comes together at the end.
So that didn't take very long did it? I went from being kind of in love with this game to being very "meh" about it in just a few days.
If you want an amazing game that functions in a similar fashion to this Zelda-esque game I suggest instead that you check out Deaths Door, which in my mind was a wonderful game and a work of art. Hob I think most people can probably skip.
