Every girl goes through it with her hair. My disaster point was a few years ago after endless hair dying from blonde to red to black and heat styling I needed a new solution. It wouldn't grow more than an inch in 3 years and that's when I discovered the magic of henna. I'd been wanting to find a natural hair dye that wouldn't be so damaging. I couldn't have been more thrilled after much research to find that henna is not only a perfect permanent hair dye it actually helps to transform and mend the hair shaft.

This first photo is from about a year ago when I tried henna tattoo powder as a hair treatment and dye. This is a permanent hair dye solution for red heads and is the only dye to completely cover any grey hairs. If you are looking to grow your hair long and healthy henna could be your knight in shinning armour. This is my hair now after about 5 different henna treatments (I used indigo in the last mixture to get it darker).

If you want an insanely cheap all natural solution that actually helps the quality of your hair then keep reading!

There are a few things you need to know before you get started.

Henna is prepared from a plant called Lawsonia inermis from the hina (the henna tree). You will need to make sure the ingrediants list only says 100% Lawsonia inermis; a lot of the prepackaged tattoo kits tend to contain other chemicals so look for the pure stuff (the kits are fine for your skin but can cause random discoloration in hair).

You can also get different shades of hair color if you mix your henna powder with two other natural powders called cassia and indigo. Cassia is typically used on blondes for a reguvinating hair treatment mask because it doesn't leave any pigment behind. You can use this to dilute the henna color for a more orange less deep auburn. Indigo is used on black hair to create a deeper pigment and shine. You can mix this with the henna powder to create a very rich dark chocolate auburn.

There are many different ways to create your hair dye mixture. I will link the website I used to help me come up with my perfect mixture here.
Http://www.Mehandi.com (You can also purchase lab tested pure lawsonia inermis here, but Amazon has better prices if you don't mind searching)

Typically you can just mix the powder with warm water and lemon juice, but I prefer to mix it with apple cider vinegar since I have extremely dry hair (the lemon is not so good for me, but creates beautiful rich highlights). Once you have your mixture you need to store it in a cool place anywhere between 6-24 hours depending on which liquids you used and how strong you want your color. The website I linked before also has a time chart. There are many different ways to mix henna for hair dye so just figure out which works best for you.

Now beware. The application process is quite messy, but the results are beyond worth it. Just make sure you smoke massive ganja bowls before you start 😂. After your mixture has cured it will look a little something like swamp sludge. Before you start line your hairline, ears and neck with vasoline (any mixture left on the skin too long will give you a temporary tattoo so wipe away any mixture that falls). You will want to slather this all over your head coating every hair and wrapping up with plastic wrap and a hot towel. You can leave it in for varied times but the longer you do the more vibrant your color will be. I typically leave it in overnight, just make sure to put a towel over your pillow too! When left on for a long period of time the henna mixture may harden so to rinse out you will need a bottle of cheap conditioner to work into the mess. Rinse until the water runs clear and enjoy your new gorgeous locks!

Remember this is permanent, not semi permanent. If you want to go lighter after this it will be a longer process to get the red completely out.

I hope this post can show girls that there are other ways to change up your look without using harsh horrible chemicals. And the money you save on salon hair care can go towards the ganja 😜. Let me know if you are going to try it out or if you have before!

I did not know that that plant had those properties
I think I'll try it on my hair before I smoke it

Oh no don't smoke it! I guess I should change the phrasing I used in a spot 🙈. The henna plant is for tattoos and hair dying. I meant smoke a bowl of herb before you get started because it's a process 😁

haha quiet I was just kidding
your idea is great

Wonderful haircare
I will love to have one
I really cherish my hair
I use aloe Vera on mine

Aloe is so good, for the skin too!
