As with the entire exterior of your home, your garage door is exposed to buildings all year round. A new coat of paint can extend the life span of your garage door, and enhance the overall look of your home.
Step 1: Clean and type Garage Door Typing
Repairing a door is the first step that needs to be taken when painting a garage door. Spray all over the door with a house cleaner and thoroughly clean dirt or dust with a cloth.
Clean the door with water from a garden faucet. When dry, use artist paint to hide any handles, cuts, and windows on your garage door. Place a damp cloth or tarp under the door to protect your entrance and garage from any dripping paint or primer.
Step 2: Remove the Old Paint Garage Door
Before painting the garage door you should remove any loose paint available with a wire brush and remove any rust with the paint you paint. You can use a chemical arrow and a sanding sponge to remove all the old paint or use a palm or circular palm. This can be a tedious task, but you need to prepare your garage door if you want your new paint job to look good and last for years.
Step 3: Raise the garage door
Part of the process of painting a garage door determines what your door is made of. Most garage doors are now made of metal, but if you have an old home you can still have a wooden door. Most outdoor latex primers work well on any type of face; just make sure the primer you choose is the right choice for your garage door.
Apply first using a wide paintbrush, paint roller, or paint sprayer. When applying paint spray, use a large piece of cardboard as protection to protect the surrounding area. Allow the primer to dry for at least 12 hours if not 24 hours.
Step 4: Paint Garage Door
As before, when painting garage doors you can use a wide paintbrush, roller, or sprayer to apply latex exterior paint such as True Value EasyCare Ultra Premium Exterior Paint. When using a paint sprayer, make it a practice to spray a large piece of cardboard.
If required, do adjustments to the sprayer. You do not want the paint to work when you are at the garage door. When you are comfortable with surgery, start spraying the door. You will need to paint inside and outside the garage door. Wait until the paint dries and apply another coat.
Step 5: Clean
Now that your garage door is painted, it’s time to clean up. Thoroughly clean your paintbrushes, roller covers, and sprayers until clear water comes out.
Store brushes in plastic bags or hangs them on nails or hooks to dry. Take pull-out fabrics or tarps and remove the artist’s tape at a 45-degree angle to avoid removing any new paint.
Good job! Your newly painted garage door will enhance the overall beauty of your home while protecting it from the elements.
