Garage Rock Killer Fuzz Song From Texas - Doomsday, by The Purple Sun

Is that a guitar or a musical chainsaw? Shield your ears from this Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

Around 1970, some guys from League City, about halfway between Houston and Galveston Texas on Interstate 45 formed a band called The Purple Sun. Those words, the purple sun, also appear in their only 45 RPM record released on Houston's Rampart Street Records. So maybe the band was named after the song was written, or maybe they thought it would be good promotion to put their band's name in their soon-to-be hit!

Unfortunately, this wasn't a hit, anywhere. But it has been a well known Garage Rock tune by people who are fans of this kind of sound. The instruments in this song are lead guitar, possibly a rhythm guitar, organ, bass and drums. The lead singer sounds like a WWF wrestling announcer getting Ready To Rumble! Between his aggressive voice and the guitar with truly sounds more like a buzzsaw or chainsaw than a regular axe, this song might blow your mind and erupt your ears!

The band starts with ominous drumming and the singer shouting/growling, "Doomsday!". Then the chainsaw, I mean guitar, plays its riff followed by the organ and rhythm section layered in. Let's see what all the commotion is about:

It's a Doomsday morning every day. It's a Doomsday evening every night. When that Purple Sun sets nothing is right.

A Purple Sun, I know will rise. A Doomsday morning will greet my eyes. My baby's gone, can't live this way. A Purple Sun has come this day!

Killer guitar solo here!

The Purple Sun will set tonight. A Doomsday evening and nothing is right. No hope for me, so on I roam. No love for me she's far from home.

It's a Doomsday morning every day. It's a Doomsday evening every night. When that Purple Sun sets nothing is right.

Killer guitar solo outro, fade to black.

Last warning before you hit Play. This is RAW and Fuzzy Buzzy! But you can dance to it. I do!

OK, good luck; play it LOUD!
