Today on YouTube the cool Rafa Psych channel put up a comp of Girl Garage Rock bands. How many have you heard before?
Song 2 is The Puppets – Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart. A great cover of the Young Rascals hit. It's a bit more of a straight forward pop rock song, whereas the Rascals were a touch more dreamy and maybe psyche. I miss a sweet guitar break which is one of the coolest things about the Rascals version. But this is a very decent cover!
Song 3 is The Models – Bend Me, Shape Me. You know the American Breed version. Now that one was pure pop rock, whereas these girls added some trippy psyche reverby stuff. I can dig it!
Song 8 is The Belles – Come Back. This was featured on a Netflix series a few years ago which was nice to see. This guitar song rocks hard for the 60s! Gotta check it out if you're not familiar with it.
Next track is also The Belles and it's Melvin! This is a cover of Gloria. But sings girls are singing, their boy Melvin stands 6 foot 4 from his head to the ground. And his name is M E L V Iiiiiii, MELVIN!
Near the end is Cathy Rich singing Wild Thing! So Cathy Rich is the daughter of Buddy Rich the famous drummer. She did this very groovy cover of The Troggs killer hit. This one has a fun ending section with a fuzzy guitar, and Cathy telling us; Wild thing, my name is Cathy and I'm WILD! Hmm hopefully not too wild, she was only 15. And not her first record either, it was her third. She put out a nice cover of And The Beat Goes On 2 years earlier in 1967 when she was just 13.
