Things continue to continue in this new kitchen garden. For example, the pole bean above is getting all kinds of fancy with about a dozen flower wands blooming at once. Speaking as a bush bean familiar, this sole survivor of my first pole bean planting months ago has sold me on pole dancers 4evah!
Beans, beans, the magical, musical fruit! They are winning the race against the marauding finch horde. Grow, baby beans, grow!
Those whingey brassicas, they are grateful for their early morning shade:
Something strange keeps happening in pepper land. I see insects underneath those blemished leaves. Tomorrow, another leaf wash with soap and Neem oil.
Meanwhile, radishes and newborn cukes win the day for speedy performance. Both are shown post-thinning:
Once again, this week's pull from the garden was minimal, but I am happy for every bit of it. It was both not long ago--and a whole other lifetime ago-- that this patch was dominated by crabgrass and dog turds.
*A vast improvement, no matter how you slice it!"
By their fruits shall you know them/[thyself]
Living Amends:
Soil amendments made.
A pile of mending darned.
I received, too, some kind of perfunctory template asking for amends. It wasn't the apology I wanted, but perhaps it was precisely the one I needed. It occurred synchronistically with a recurring ground fungus fruiting body that had to be uprooted by its mycelium and doused in a strong milk culture. (No pics, because the huge fleshy disc, like the template email, triggered a primordial recoil within me.
Voltaire precociously said both, "Crush the Horror," and "I will cultivate my garden."
May we all dwell in love, kindness, peace, and joy.
