The weather has been good this week so I have kept busy in the garden. This is the time of year to do preventative weed maintenance. The weeds are just starting to grow so if I can get a jump start on them now, the rest of the year will take less work in dealing with the weeds. I have filled my car with mulch half a dozen times already. I am filling all my pathways with wood mulch. Areas that are especially weedy I am putting a layer of cardboard down with a layer of wood mulch on top of that.
Straining Honey thru Cheese Cloth
Chloe and I had one frame of honey from last season. We though we might need to feed it to the bees come spring time. Unfortunately all the bees died… So we harvested the honey. We don’t have a frame centrifuge to remove the honey so we just scraped the honey from the frame, wax and all. Then we strained it through cheese cloth to remove the bits of wax.
Garlic Sprouting through Mulch
Garlic has been one of my most reliable crops in my garden. Always the first thing to sprout come spring.
Moldy Bees
One of the hives that died had lots of mold in it. We are still trying to figure out if the mold killed them, or if they died and then the mold started.
