Early July Garden Update

The garden is alive!

Last year, we didn't get tomatoes until summer heat died down. This year?

Sooo HAPPY!

This year, I used fish emulsion fertilizer once on the tomatoes, then switched to an organic version of miracle-gro. Seems to be working!

This is an Orangeglo watermelon. It's putting out flowers daily. But hey, we got melons set!

Speaking of melons, this cantaloupe is climbing a wee Cypress tree. Looking a bit wilty because it's 100+ degrees in my neck of the woods.

My red Kuri squash has claimed this fence.

The zucchini and crookneck are thriving.

Because it gets way hot here, I rigged a filtered shade for my peppers since they don't set when it gets way warm. It seems to be working, since they aren't dropping flowers (or wilting in the summer heat)

The lemon cukes are officially a jungle.

This year we're growing two types of okra: Clemson Spineless and Hill Country Red.

Last year, we had a single Clemson Spineless produce two gallons worth by itself, so the Hill Country Red is the experimental crop. But like all okra, they have beautiful flowers.

Man, this is the best part of gardening; nurturing a plant through it's life cycle and enjoying every moment. From seed to flowers to fruit.

Fantastic!
I just planted the seeds I got from you last week. Followed by four days of temps over 110 degrees everything is sprouting. Had I planted mid spring, I would have lost everything. All of my neighbors ivy is scorched beyond repair. In just a matter of days.
I will share pics when my plants start establishing. Thanks again for the seed

Awesome! Can't wait to see 'em :)

We had temps going up to 108 for a few days. Mulch and rigged shade helped some. Lost a couple some carrots, though.

Looks like you're doing a great job! What state are you growing in?

We're in Cali.

That's a decent sized tomato :O Garden is looking pretty good to my untrained eye :D

It's a trade off; remove all but one bloom on the cluster to get bigger maters rather than a bigger harvest.

And now I know. Although we don't usually get to have that problem as we have two large rats that tend to snaffle all available produce before harvest, they have to be told to please leave a few for salads and the like XD
