Japanese Lanterns in America | Monomad Tuesday

in garden •  7 years ago  (edited)

I've wanted a Japanese lantern in front of my house for some time now. I even did the research on how to make one out of concrete and the various forms and shapes you'd use, and how to finish it and stain and color it. A lot of work.

It still intrigues me, these little statues to tradition which historically served as both a measure of a family's wealth and a way to honor Buddha.

So I went out to a local landscape shop to peruse some choices, to tempt myself and see if I'd buy one. I almost did. The little one in the picture was about $200, but it turned out to be a special order, so I used that as my excuse not to spend the money.

Guess I'm not wealthy enough yet.

Wow that is a lot of steem to get a little light. They are cool though:)

They are very cool, but you're right. If you measure things against how much work it takes to earn the equivalent amount of steem...well, a lot of things seem very expensive then :)

i admit its very very beautiful especially if you place it to the right spot... i didn't know though that there are so expensive...if you candle it during night the outcome would be perfect...hope you get the money one day ;) .. can you give us a hind about the price??

Thanks! They're not terribly expensive (depending on your standards). I updated my post to note the price :) The little one I was looking at was about $200.

it is expensive then...200 bucks for the small one is not small money...

That was my thought too :) Normally, they say 'if you have to ask how much it costs, you probably can't afford it.'

Have you driven north on 441, sometimes they have them for sale. Well, I shouldn't say that, they have various outdoor stuff for sale that you might justify buying.

How far north? I drive 441 once in a while, but I'm normally not keeping an eye out for random outdoor stuff :)

Shop around. I bet you can get a better deal! They are very pretty and somehow create a sense of peacefulness.

At first I thought you might be talking about the plant - a lot cheaper and much more colorful!
