New seeds

in gardening •  7 years ago

I ordered several different types of seeds last week and just received some of them. This order was from https://www.rareseeds.com. I was looking for a few unusual plants and ended up on their site. They have an impressive selection of plants and varieties. I was able to find most of the seeds I was looking for, plus some impulse buys. It was hard not buying a lot more seeds.

This plant produces grape sized cucumbers that look like miniature watermelons. They taste like cucumbers with a hint of lemon.

Malabar spinach is a heat-loving vine which is commonly grown in Asia. It is grown for its leaves which have a mild spinach-like flavor. It thrives in the heat of summer, when other leafy greens have bolted. It is very sensitive to frost and some people say it can be invasive in areas that don’t get frost. The name is misleading as it is not a type of spinach.

Black Turtle Bean

This is a standard black bean. They claim this can do well even in cooler northern climate.

Ground Cherry

I had never heard of ground cherry and thought it looked interesting. It looks similar to a tomatillo - it is wrapped in a husk - but has a sweet-tart fruit inside. You grow them exactly like a tomato.

Early Purple Vienna Kohlrabi and Delicacy White Kohlrabi

California Blackeye Pea
