Before the concrete wall collapsed like I said on my previous post, I was able to harvest these gandus. That is how we call this rootcrop I think they are similar with yams. If you had been following my blog posts, I had showed several photos of me and my gandus plants wherein I am nestled in their mids. They got big or gigantic leaves making me appear little.
It was my first time to plant this kind of crop because we do not normally see this on a backyard garden. I found out later on that the bigger the leaves grow the smaller the roots will be. I just let them grow because I am not aware and that explains why I got these roots that look smaller than I expected.
I will be using them to prepare a local delicacy. I can turn them into a kakanin similar to ube halaya. I will mash them until fine then cook them together with milk sugar and butter. The longer the cooking under low fire the better the texture and taste. The result will look like a purple cake depending on the color of the gandus.
