Welcome to Part 2 of my Herb Growing Series

In this part i will go through the herbs i have chosen from your comments in Part 1 of the series. I'll explain step by step how I plan to start the herb growing process. The seeds we'll be starting this round are Rosemary, Coriander Seeds(Cilantro), Oregano, and Sweet Basil.

First i started by filling up my containers with some potting soil.

Here are the seeds I have for the grow.

I'll start with Coriander Seeds which grow into Cilantro. The coriander seed is considered more in the spice category where as when the plant leaves are harvested and used it is considered to be a herb.
Cilantro is a good source of dietary fiber, vitamins A, C, E, K, calcium, iron, potassium, and magnesium.

The package says 1/4" depth but i found even a bit more like 1/2" can be benificial unless you have them spaced very close together or have a lot of light to stop them from stretching. Otherwise they are prone to falling over from being too tall and skinny for their stem to support. once you have your seeds planted you'll need to water the soil nicely to ensue the seeds soak in up some water. I use a spray bottle for this usually so it does not disturb soil and the seeds placement as much as conventional watering.

I read that removing the seeds from the shells could be beneficial to germination so i split about half the shells, each one comes with two seeds.

Oregano is a pungent green herb that is used in many dishes especially Italian and Greek. It is high in vitamin K and a good source of manganese, iron, dietary fiber and calcium.

The depth says 1/8" for these but i will usually just sprinkle them on top of the dirt, they will usually germinate well there or can even sometimes fall to the 1/8" depth from watering. Spraying these with a water bottle to soak the soil is best to not disturb the seed placement too much.

The Oregano seeds are very small and can be difficult to work with.

Sweet Basil is best fresh and is sweet and earthy with a hint of mint or licorice aroma. Great when infused into an olive oil. Boast many nutrients including vitamin A, B-6, C, Calcium, Iron, and Magnesium.

The depth is again 1/8" for these but i will usually just sprinkle them on top of the dirt the same as before, they will usually germinate well there or can even sometimes fall to the 1/8" depth from watering. Spraying these with a water bottle to soak the soil is best to not disturb the seed placement too much.

Rosemary is a very popular herb which is used in many dishes and also used has lots of health benefits especially the flower tops which contain antibacterial and antioxidant rosmarinic acid, plus several essential oils including cineol, camphene, borneol, bornyl acetate, and α-pinene that are known to have anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and antiseptic properties. It's a good source of Vitamin A, Thiamin, Magnesium, Dietary Fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Folate, Calcium, Iron and Manganes.

Labeling them is a good idea, i just used a piece of tape and marker, lots of the time i put the date they were started too, here i forgot though.

Now i covered them with a bit of plastic wrap. It acts as an incubator keeping the moisture and a bit of heat trapped in there.

Finally i moved my light down close to the top. It will help keep heat up the soil a bit and when the plants are ready to come up they will get some decent light since it is a smaller light fixture it doesn't produce much for plants so the closer it is the better.
