BEES on the PALM TREE

in gardening •  7 years ago

Afternoon steemers,
I was working away today in Brisbane and one of the requests we get a lot is to remove Palm seeds off plants before the drop everywhere and create a mess. So as normal I grabbed the ladder and a saw and started removing the seeds, there were BEES EVERYWHERE!!! Europeans, Natives and Assassin Bugs lurking at the ends of the pods picking off the odd unsuspecting Native Bee.

Apis mellifera collecting some pollen upside down.

This particular Palm had four lots of seed pods, two had already flowered and started to rot so they where removed. The other two pods had only just started to flower, hence the masses of bees :-) I left theses pods for the bees.

A. mellifera again if you look really hard you can see a little blurry Native in the background.

Happy gardening,
Sam.
