Afternoon steemers,
A long time ago I shared some pictures of some cacti from a beautiful spot in New South Wales, I recently returned and couldn't help but capture these beauties in pots!
These things would grow fairly rapidly if planted into the earth.
The new growth on this Trichocereus bridgesii is spectacular, the older growth tells stories of struggle and neglect.
Unfortunately I have never had a chance to see any of the cacti here flower in person but I suggest an internet search to see them, they are huge and beautiful!!
I have personally seen T. pachonoi in flower which is also a sight to behold, even though far more common than the varieties shown here.
This guy's name is Trichocereus bridgesii 'Montrose' and is one of my favourite compact cacti as it grows well in a pot.
This is the same type as above, it's common name is "Penis Cacti"..... I have no idea why....
These cacti are super hardy and are surprisingly fast growing (for cacti) if given the right care.
They handle and love a fair amount of water and fertiliser through the Warner periods provided the right pot size or soil profile is provided.
Well drained media is essential!
This is a seed grown hybrid variety, we assume bridgesii x but it could realistically be anything.
It's been a treat out here observing the cacti in different conditions, I'll be back in spring to do an update on these guys so stay tuned!
Make sure you comment if you want more cacti posts!
Thanks for stopping by steemers,
Happy gardening,
Sam.
