Gardening - Raised Beds After 4 Years

in gardening •  8 years ago

Back in 2013 I completely overhauled the garden space! It was cleaned out and made new. This image shows how it looks early in 2017.

Here's a video that shows how I installed the raised beds in 2013. The garden was completely empty!

This video is about the little greenhouse in the garden. Many people have claimed that I saved their LIFE, their MARRIAGE and their SANITY! with the instructions about how to build this greenhouse in my video. The instructions that came with the greenhouse are very poor.

Thank you for sharing this time with me! COMMENT and RESTEEM :)

I love your greenhouse. One day I will have one as well. Your son has surely grown since this video was made!

It is always gratifying when hard work pays off. Keep up the good work!

Yes indeed! Thanks :)

Wonderful! Your video saved a lot of aggravation and headache. I love my green house.

I'm so glad you found that helpful!

I too have raised garden beds. As I was looking at your picture it inspired me to do more than just the beds. you have a nice garden and thank you for the picture.

I'm always encouraged when someone says that I have inspired them! Thank you. May you be overwhelmed with a bountiful garden!

Great video and very nice garden. :)

Nice video. Thanks for sharing.

My pleasure! The journey of my little garden and homestead has been very rewarding for me. I like to share it with others as well. :)

LOL, I ran into the same issue with my assembly greenhouse. Poor instructions. Nice raised beds and garden area you have going on.

Yes! When I saw those instructions I thought "I have to make a video of this!" LOL

Great video on the beds. I haven't watched the greenhouse one yet. I notice you don't use 4x4's on your corners like I do. Let me know how that holds up.
Maybe I don't need them. Looks like a good mix you're using for soil. I live very close to the mushroom capital of the country so spent mushroom soil is a good choice around here. What are you going to do for your walkways?

I'm using shredded Cedar mulch for the pathways. It locks together nicely, stays in place, looks pretty, keeps weeds out nicely and smells good :) The corners of my beds have done pretty well. The boards will rot out in another season or two since I didn't use treated so it's about time to come up with a new plan.

Oh yea I think you told me about the cedar wood chips in another post. Don't you use cedar wood for your boxes?

No, this is just untreated Yellow Pine. The Cedar was double the cost and at the time I didn't have the funds. However, it probably would have, at least, doubled the life of the beds. They are nearly rotted through already.

Cedar has lasted me up to 10 years. I don't know if you are near a Lowes or Home Depot but they have 5-7 inch planks all different lengths for a reasonable price and they're nice and thick so they last even longer. I usually double them up to get my boxes 11" deep. You would have to use 2x4s or 4x4s on the corners to make that work though. There's a picture in this post.

That is a beautiful garden! I may use Cedar for my next go'round. I've even thought about something more permanent like formed concrete... we'll see.
