Gardening - The Vertical Garden Potato Experiment - Update 3steemCreated with Sketch.

Day 32 of the Potato Tower Experiment. The odds are stacked (pun mildly intended) against the spuds. It's hot and the light is poor, but we have consistent growth. It appears that the Potato plants are working really hard to get the light they need to produce a little something for me.

The Big Difference

This update is now 15 days after the last update. The one main thing that I'm doing different now compared to then is that I'm not turning the tower any more. Here's what I noticed. the plants were bending and twisting to reach toward the light. Now that they are long enough to reach for it I decided to stop confusing them by twisting the tower. I found one position that would put most of the smaller plants toward the main source of light, then left it in that position. The rest of them will reach as needed for the duration of this experiment.

OK, lots of green, so that's good! But yeah I wonder just how many spuds you get and how big will they get? As for my cement block potatoes I decided to not put that 3rd layer on and just let them focus on the spuds themselves than having to worry about growing taller. So far everything is looking good!

Hope this turns out. All of my potatoes are harvested. They were great.

Shared to others so they can follow along!

This is lovely! Must learn gardening in the future... :)

Cool post. I may give this a try.

Now I've gotta go back and read your other posts. I have dreams of successful potato growing, but so far have had one disaster after the next.

Very interesting experiment. I've only really seen 'taters grown in the ground, or in potato towers, but they keep covering the green stems and stuff with more dirt or straw? I have yet to grow potatoes, but it's definitely something I need to grow. YUMMO.

Hang on potato plants! :D

I'm very curious as to what sort of potatoes your vertical garden will actually yield.

We have a few potatoes growing here as well in a fabric pot!
They seem to be doing fantastic! Can't wait to see the results for both of us :)
