Curative properties of celery

Celery has been used since historical times both in the kitchen and in naturopathic medicine. It is one of the vegetables that has more medicinal properties. You can eat raw, cooked or its juice. In addition to its crispy texture and flavor, it is a "balancing" vegetable. If combined with other vegetables such as carrots and tomatoes, celery juice helps calm the nerves and is a good remineralizer. The celery salad with a little salt can be used effectively to combat the excess acidity of the digestive tract and relieve colitis. The salad of celery and avocado is recommended in case of diseases of the stomach and intestine.

It helps the body to get rid of impurities through its diuretic function (due to its content in a volatile oil, the apiol). It is characterized by being carminative, sedative, appetizer, digestive (which does not imply easy digestibility due to its high fiber content), emmenagogue, depurative, blood regenerator and slightly laxative. It helps the formation of tooth enamel. It decreases liver diseases, fights infections, helps the elimination of kidney stones, improves memory and in external use usually behaves as a scar. There are people who believe that ingesting this plant helps increase libido.

In juice is effective to eliminate excess uric acid, combat rheumatism, overweight, flatulence, nervous disorders and scanty menstruation.

Regarding the diuretic effect of celery, it is the seeds that cause a greater diuresis, being the cooking of these, useful in case of hypertension, congestive heart disease, anxiety and insomnia. Likewise, the infusion of celery seeds is beneficial to combat premenstrual syndrome that produces discomfort shortly before menstruation due to the accumulation of fluid in the tissues.

Several studies have shown that celery seeds reduce the content of glucose in the blood, which can be useful as an aid in the treatment of diabetes, of course, always under medical supervision.
