Let's Take A Walk In The Garden

in gardening •  6 years ago

Today I'd like to show you the rest of the garden, so come with me but first take your rubber boots as it's really muddy in the garden :) It's been raining a lot which is not good. Too much water is going to do a lot of damage.

Currants, which are the base fruit for us. I'm making a bunch of jam each year. Currants are growing but there's also something that concerns me.

Do you see those spots on the fruits? That is not good at all. I don't know what it is, have never seen it before. This needs to be investigated.

The gooseberry is looking good. I hope to have a lot next year although I can't complain, there's plenty.

The honeydew is also growing nicely, no need for concern.

There's this yellow plum tree that we have, the fruits start to fall off each year before they start to ripen. I believe that's going to happen this year as well, I don't know why. there's no sign of illness or parasites. Good thing I have another source where I can pick some.

IMG_20190528_111006a.jpg

Celery, we use the leaves and the roots as well.

IMG_20190528_110831a.jpg

Beans, I see one of the leaf is half eaten. Looks like someone had lunch already.

IMG_20190528_110648a.jpg

Tomatoes, my favorites. Can't wait to see the fruits, although I believe two months will pass till I can eat some but I'm patient.

IMG_20190528_110610a.jpg

One row of cucumbers, also my favorite vegetable. I love them raw and as pickles as well. Both are very good. At least we're going to have cucumbers for the whole year.

Potatoes and another problem. That guy is there to eat the leaves, so must be eliminated and his relatives as well, otherwise these would destroy everything.

Beans again, another type. Don't ask me what type as i have no idea.

Thank you.

That's a very nice looking garden. I wish you a good harvest. I used to help my grandma in a garden like this, good memories. And you may send some of that water this way, a bit to dry overhere.

Thank you, I wish I could send you some water. I took the photos before the rain but even so, the soil was wet underneath the top layer.

Looks like still lots of work in store.
Hope things turn out well for you.

Thank you. When you have a garden, there's always a lot of work.

you're welcome

Thank you very much!

You have an amazing garden, Erika. You can tell just looking at the plants that a lot of work and passion has been spent on it.
The spots on the currants are most likely due to the rain. And, unfortunately, there is not much to be done.
As for the plum fruits, apparently they fall due to missing minerals in the soil (phosphorus and potassium) or due to a high quantity of nitrogen (do you have beans or peas near the plum trees?).
But hey, what would be gardening without challenges? 🙂
Thank you for your continuos support. 😘

Wow, what a nice comment, and I thought you are mad at me 😊
Thank you my dear friend! We do a lot of work here as it's our source of healthy food. It is never easy and there are always a bunch of challenges that put you to test but you know how it is, you're doing it for yourself.
I hope the currants will still survive. I would hate losing the crop. I already have clients for the jam 😀
People love it. As about the plums, beens are far from it and we had no green peas last year but thanks for the info. Good thing there's a place where I can forage plums like this for free and it's far from pollution.
Thanks for including my entry in your compilation.
I hope to see you more in here but I know you're busy, especially during summer.

Dropping is never good when it comes to rank but I'll do better next time.

Gooseberries! It’s years since I had any of them they look fantastic, and plums as well - a fruitifull delight!

Your seeding beds are looking very regimental, but that little beetle is so cute - surely one little beetle can’t consume all that much leaves.

You have so many beans you don’t know what they are? Maybe Heinz special beans for toast?

I’m very jealous of your well stocked and organised fruit and vegetables garden - it’s an inspiration and at least you don’t have to spend every other week mowing the lawn lol.
