My Tiny Garden - It's Periwinkle time!

in gardening •  7 years ago  (edited)

You have no idea how hard it is to find a plant that will grow on my balcony. It is very hot in the summer and I have to water the post every day. Not all annual flowers like it. They grow smaller, and dry out sooner than the ones in a garden.
Of course I have succulents that enjoy it, but I wanted something that will bloom for me.

And I found Periwinkles! They are just perfect (beside Pelargoniums, but that's for another post). They like sun, don't mind the heat and since we do not have freezing cold winters I can keep the pot outside and they will regrow on their own. Either way from the last years stems, or from seeds that will drop after they are done blooming.

I do suggest to pick the seeds whenever you can and sow them again in new soil. But looks like they can take care of themselves pretty well.

Fantastic post

Thanks a lot! :D

Great stuff! I really like colourful plants like these to lighten up my garden. Do you specifically look for smell aswell?

Thanks! Those are just perfect! Not very big and super cute.
No, I don't look for smell. It is more important that they handle the weather. I have freesias that bloom in spring and I just love their fragrance. But they don't last long and right now they are all dried up.

Your flowers are absolutely gorgeous! Resteem!

Thanks Erika! :D I like them too :)

Nice photos. I have masses of these in my Florida garden. Because it is hot here, they reseed themselves and pop up in profusion every springtime! I lovevthem !

Thank you! Yea, they like warm weather and so easy to grow :)

Lovely ! I too have some vinca growing right now but they the trailing variety. I'll post some pictures when they flower :)

Yes, my mum has the trailing one too. It's in pretty blue colour. This one didn't want to grow here.

congrats on youR balcony flower ❤ hmm i dont think i would even try to do that ;)

Why not? :) Your Rotties eat everything?

ok i can kill dead flowers... :P
Hm yes and no, yes IF i give them . if others do, they will not take anything. and noo they are NO 3 sec dogs, they wouldent dare to take stuff from floor , if you dont offer it to them ;)

Haha you're good :D
Woow.. well trained doggies! Still scary to me :p
