TreeTuesday - Old fig tree with some bonus Lichens.

in gardening •  7 years ago

In the south of Portugal grows this very old fig tree. It is crooked, twisted and has empty trunk. It is still growing though and gives fruits... for how long? Nobody knows.

Looks like it is just the bark covered in lichen left.

And some holes...

Took this photos around Easter and you can see young leaves starting to show.
One more year..

Very nice photos and the macro shots were cool. We had a fig tree when I was growing up but a hurricane took it. I loved the canned figs and fig jelly.

Thank you! I never had canned figs. We always eat them fresh, or I make a fig cake. They are so good!

My Grandfather did the canning and jams. They are great fresh as well. You never had canned figs and I have never had fig cake so we are even.

I guess we are :D

Cool tree - imagine the stories it would tell if it could talk!

Reminds me of the Ents from Lord of the Rings

It would take him ages to tell them!
.... after he finally finishes with the "hello"
Maybe it is an Ent :o

wonderful work!

Thanks a lot Jules :)

Beautifully photographed, Ewa. (I don't seem to be able to add a comment, just a reply :/ )

Thanks Norman! Decided to join? :)

WOW! What an amazing form it has and still living despite of tight so badly wounded trunk. It's for sure kind of super-hero among the fig-trees. 😄

It probably is! And it is very old too...
I like all those twisted trees and big branches :D

I like them as well. At the French Azura I love those cork-trees which are similarly formed.

Yea, they can be too. There is lots of them here too more south.
Big, bit oaks..

Beautiful shots Ewka 😊

Thanks Lenka :D
