Celebrating the Fig Harvest

in gardening •  7 years ago

It's one of the best times of the year at the Garden of Eden:

THE FIGS ARE RIPE!!!

We have 4 fig trees on our property, and each produces a bounty of plump, sweet fruits. The trees are only 10-15 feet tall with broad, flat leaves, and several "trunks".

Our figs are purple and tender when ripe, and they fall off the tree with the gentlest tug. Green figs are not quite ready for harvesting; they are firmer and would require more force to pull off the branch.

During the height of the season, a mere 10 minute harvest yields about 2.5 pounds of fruit!

The closer to ripe, the higher the antioxidant content of figs! They are also good sources of fiber, magnesium, manganese, calcium, copper, potassium, and vitamins including K and B6.

We like to eat them raw, sometimes as part of a beautiful platter of decadent treats.

We also alchemize them into dank preserves that we offer on Peerhub by SBD donation!!!

Great post! Yummmmyyy!!!! Abundance!!!!
I understand they are super easy to propogate from cuttings too!

Thanks, @michaelmcdermott! Yes, that's how we got some of our trees :)
We scored the branches, stuck the end in a plastic bottle with soil & water, and let it take root. Plants are a gift that keeps on giving!!!

Oh yeah! Awesome!!!! :)

Looks delicious!

For many of the inhabitants of our ecovillage, the figs are our favorite harvest :)
Super easy, super yummy, and super healthful!!!

Omg this is mesmerising

Steemit is the revolution!! We have put almost a year of time, energy, and resources into this platform to earn our current position, and it's a lot of fun! :)

We have fig, mulberry, and peach trees, as well as pecan and a variety of healing but non-food bearing trees like slippery elm. We also have melons that grow on vines and blackberries that grow on bushes, and a whole bunch of veggies and herbs!! It is very satisfying to have a food production system with enough abundance to share!

You can run your food market man
Hats off
Great work
Seems dedicated!

Oh I love figs. I would put them in everything. Your fig spread with rosemary looks tempting!

That is one of our most epic creations! Sweet and savory, with super powers from the herbs and all kinds of healthful goodness from the fruit...seriously über dank stuff!!!

Iya sangat enak dan cepat kenyang :-)

I have a plant in my garden, kinda late this year, I hope it does give us some Figs

Hope you are abundantly blessed, @howgreat!

Figs are real tasty and full of energy. Good that you have fig trees.

Plenty of functional components in figs and they are good to lower cholesterol and sugar levels and beneficial for diabetics.

It is a blessing to have not one, but 4 fig trees!! They are super healthful and really, really delicious.

Do you also make them dry so they will have more shelf life ?

i think i have eaten figs before but in my memory it is bigger than the picture the flesh is pink in colour and sweet.

There are some larger varieties of figs as well, and of course these things can depend a great deal on growing conditions. In the US, dried figs are much more common to find than fresh figs--some people have never had a fresh fig before coming to the Garden of Eden! But they quickly become a favorite treat for most who try them :)

Looks delicious! I love figs :)

Such a treat!

Wow, how I wish I will be part of this celebration. Great pictures, keep it up

Love figs! We have a friend who has fig trees that bear wonderful figs. Theirs is the green variety and I just so look forward to them every year. The trees bear so much fruit that they're able to share them with friends and family.

That bowl of figs you posted just makes me want to have them now.

Thanks for sharing!

Excellent! I am very happy for your harvest and I'm living vicariously through it, as I recently lost my entire fig and food forest collection of around 100 #5- #10 sized figs and fruiting plants. This was due to my live/work situation going very sour very fast when my ranch owner went crazy and got addicted to pain killers... A story I might publish here. I had to sneak out early one morning with only what I could fit in my car because the woman was out of her mind and waving a gun around the previous day. At any rate, congrats on your harvest!

Beautiful figs! Love seeing a bountiful harvest. :)

My friend great work

Wow, so wonderful! :)

nice tree...good work out there...keep it up
