For those with a green thumb, a greenhouse allows you to pursue your green dreams all year round. Also, depending on what hardiness zone you're in, it can open up some possibilities that would not grow in your climate.

I've wanted one for a long time, but haven't wanted to spend the money to have on installed. I had seen greenhouses that were built from plastic sheeting and PVC, but wanted something that looked a bit nicer and could stand up to the weather.

My enjoyment of gardening has stemmed from my love of cooking. Everything I grow is edible and contributes to my culinary creations in some way.

So, I began to stash old windows, and watched the "free" section on craigslist for lumber.

Last week, I finally had enough material.

Using old deck wood, a storm door my father-in-law donated to the cause, and old windows collected over time, my greenhouse became a reality.

My only expenses were the roofing panels (3 panels * $14/panel) and a box of exterior screws ($8). Everything else was completely free!

The greenhouse is located on the back side of the house, just outside the door to the kitchen, making for easy access.

The first residents of the greenhouse are cranberry hibiscus, a peppercorn vine, malabar spinach, and moringa.

When it gets colder, the steady temperature in the greenhouse will keep the plants happy and thriving.

Good jobb :)

Awesome I've wanted to build a greenhouse for awhile. I thought about using cane or bamboo and plastic sheeting because I am with you on using recycled materials. I built my chicken coop for free with recycled material. Nice job it looks great!
