Last week in Ligaya Garden #13

So much is happening, both here and out there in the big world that we thought it worth doing a little catchup every Sunday and publish it on a Monday, Oz time.

Another pleasantly slow week at Ligaya Garden Changeable weather played havoc with schedules (not mine, other folk's times...I try not to have a schedule if I can help it).

I mostly spent time cleaning and reorganising. You can walk from one end of the shed to the other without doing yourself an injury.

The back garden is as clean as the proverbial whistle. Everything has found a place at last or been reused/recycled/given away/chucked out. The kerb has been doing double work as we've funneled things out of our possession.

Nearly all of the plants in pots have been repotted, many to larger pots, some divided and some consigned to the chooks or the green bin.



I've added a thick layer of hardwood bark mulch to the pots in the back. That's mostly to make it easier after Mama Blackbird has done her foraging in our potting mix. As you can see from the pic above, she's not in total agreement.

Now that her babies are gone, it's time to be a bit stricter with her. Later I'm going to make mesh pot covers to deter her but for now, the pots needed mulching before the heat so this kills two birds with one stone (sorry Mama Blackbird... I not you. You'll live to raise many more babies at Ligaya Garden). It is easier to clean up chunks of bark than it is potting mix.

Jelina worked with Aunty Ellen at a weaving workshop where both shared their skills with an appreciative audience. The wonderful Bev Lane was there as well as our good friend Joan. Karen Shaw catered with her creative use of native plants in cooking.

Marlon has started work on overhauling this blog. It's getting a bit wild and rambling (like it's author, of course) and we need his artistic input. It's all been done by me so far and I'm not very visual. Though I reckon I've held it all together quite well so far.

But mostly it was a week of cleaning, sorting and parting.

I did squeeze in two posts though - one on our Crassula plants and why we love them.

The other was Ligaya Gardening Tips #16 which was about the role of fungi in the garden.
