So close... Desert Limes

in gardening •  6 years ago

It's getting close now... Our first crop of Desert Limes!

Citrus glauca are much more prolific than the Finger Limes (Citrus australasica) that folks carry on about and I reckon they're tastier.

Sure they don't have that funny flesh inside them but these keep on yielding

Ours is one of the varieties that the CSIRO developed for yield. For those not in Oz, CSIRO was our peak scientific body until our right wing, christian, coal loving gubberment came to power and started to defund science, especially climate change science.

Im lucky they researched these plants while they were actively doing science stuff.

Im guessing that we have a week until they're ready... I'll keep you posted.

Hooray!

So, these are not natural - but we are supposed to empathise and feel terrible about the government no longer researching how to mutate plants...what about people? Should they be mutating us also

What is wrong with breeding for what you want? That system works... and has worked for thousands of years, without harming us.

Are these SA natives?
I've been trying to grow finger limes, but they aren't talking to my extreme garden! Lol!
