I just harvested a few leaves off my tobacco plants

I've been nurturing these bad boys since early spring. All grown from my own seed that I saved off of only one flower from last years plants. With tobacco a little goes a long way...

Dried flower, stem and seed. You can see I still have a tonne left from last year, I won't even need to let a tobacco plant go to flower this year!

It's hard to even see the seeds, can you believe such a small seed grows such a huge plant?

This was the tobacco in April. The seeds are so small that you don't even plant them. You just sprinkle them on top of soil and water them in. Once they start developing, like in the above photo, it is necessary to water them from the bottom only, allowing the water to soak up, if you spray the plants, even with a gentle mist, it's enough pressure to destroy them.

Do I have any smoke hating puritans in the house?

I made a video just for you!

I hope you all are having a wonderful day! My in-laws have the kids today down at the beach and I'm working like crazy out in the gardens, I'll show you tomorrow what I've gotten myself into, just thought I'd make a quick blog to show off my giant tobacco leaves, I'm sure Tarzan would approve...If you have any questions about growing tobacco feel free to ask!

Love your video, wish the elites would practice what they preach and just dinosaur themselves...

I get a notion that vaping is more dangerous than organic tobacco.... thoughts? Some ex-smoker I know who owns a shop swears by it, but breathing plastic (propylene glycol) can't be too good...

So far as I know, the depopulation movement started with Thomas Malthus in the early 19th century... That elitist shmuck actually preached that the world's resources would collapse under the weight of 1 billion occupants... Whatta loser! The insanity goes on today, but with certain highly concentrated population centers and a seven fold population, it's easier to dramatize things...

Thanks for not being a sheeple XD

Thomas Malthus was such a bastard. From At Home by Bill Bryson:

Malthus blamed the poor for their own hardships and opposed the idea of relief for the masses on the grounds that it simply increased their tendency to idleness. ‘Even when they have an opportunity of saving,’ he wrote, ‘they seldom exercise it for all that is beyond their present necessities goes, generally speaking, to the ale-house. The poor-laws of England may therefore be said to diminish both the power and the will to save among the common people, and thus to weaken one of the strongest incentives to sobriety and industry, and consequently to happiness.’ He was particularly troubled by the Irish, and believed, as he wrote to a friend in 1817, that ‘a great part of the population should be swept from the soil’. This was not a man with a lot of Christian charity in his heart.

It's amazing how this genocidal maniac's ideas have swept into the mainstream and become a part of a classic liberal education. Did you know he published his essays anonymously? He didn't even have the courage to stand behind his arguments - probably because he knew he'd be rightfully hanged for them.

Props to @lyndsaybowes for calling out this kind of thinking for what it is.

@winstonalden thanks for the blast of info, these bastards are all psychotic at best...

Whatta loser for realz!

I loves ya you happy pencil pushin dolphin you <3 <3 <3 Thanks for watching my little rant, and thank YOU for not being ashleep!! :) :) Thank you for using logic and reason, and for not wanting to off half the world! :) :) :) Keep being amazing!! xoxoox

Ashleep - now that's a good one... XD

I was listening to an underground musician today and they summarized society as "robots controlled by vampires"... sounds about right to me :-r

Almost deserves a drawing ;D

The pencil pushing continues!

Noiiiiice I'd love to see that drawing! And I love that analogy too. Truly...the zombie apocalypse is here, it has been for a while, I find it amusing that some folks think it's a future event... LOL!!

Not quite underground, yet still an impressive piece of art:

My thoughts: Do what ever you want with your own body <3

And yeah, the vaping business has sure boomed, thanks to the "war on smoking" :) We all know who has their fingers in every pie though...

Especially if doing what I want with my own body involves goofy drawings and cracking wise! XD

Are you referring to this chap?

YESSSS!!! AHHAHAHA YES to BOTH! :D :D :D

Oh thank you so much for that rant! So sick of hearing those judgements! Not that I smoke, but if someone chooses to, what business is it of anyone else's? No I don't want to be standing around breathing it in, but neither do I want to be standing around breathing in car fumes. Legs are useful in this case.

I was actually just writing up some thoughts on this 'population problem ' people keep putting forward, but wasn't sure whether to post them. I might just take the plunge and post them anyway now!

Big love and hugs @minismallholding!! :) :) :)

😁 Thank you.

Good rant, Lindsay...

Not much logic left in the world these days, is there? ;)

Beautiful, huge tobacco leaves... Elephant ears!

😄😇😄

@creatr

Logic/Reason are more rare than anything these days...thanks to good folks like YOU they are not yet extinct! Big Love I have for you @Creatr!! Surf ON!!!!

Thank you, dear. :D

I've got to get my flying car built so I can drop by for and visit you and your beautiful family and farm... ;)

Yes, please do hurry up and get on that! :) :) :)

Ha ha, you look so happy - well done.

Awwww, shucks... *blushes ... Thanks Kate!

Those are some huge leaves. I have been wondering how hard it is to grow tobacco. Now I know. Great post. I would be proud. 🐓🐓

Thank you Mother2Chicks! I just make sure that I over plant, I started off with 60 seedlings, and ooops killed all except 6 LOL!! As you can see though, 6 is plenty <3 <3 <3

A 10% production rate is not too bad. I have done much worse. Haha! I was very impressed with your 6. 🐓🐓

You go @lyndsaybowes!

I bought 5 or 6 different kinds of tobacco seed a few years ago but never got around to planting it. You know tobacco is actually a close relative of the tomato don't you? Even though I didn't grow tobacco I did get a new pipe recently and just enough tobacco to claim a new rekindled vice.

Oooh wow, no I didn't know it was a close relative to tomato! Wowee!! Thank you for the information that's definitely interesting...I'm trying to see the link between them. Let me know if you ever end up growing, and vice ON!

Don't plant the tobacco plants anywhere near the tomato plants, they share the same diseases, and tobacco mosaic virus can infect tomato plants. The same goes for potato plants, they are related to tomato plants. Also, if you can, skip a year before you plant tomato plants where you had tobacco plants before, for the same reason. Some of the diseases stay in the ground over the winter.

Thanks very much for the solid advice @amberyooper!

You're welcome!

Those are some pretty green leafs!!

"suicide your self"
LOL
That was awesome!

Aww, thank you so much for hearing my lil' rant and enjoying it I always love to be able to make people laugh.

Do you grow anything @acromott?

Still have some tobacco seeds in my seed box from ages ago. Wonder if they're still viable? They've been in the fridge for about 5 yrs. Hell, who knows. I went to vaping and it's worked for me for years now but I do enjoy the whif of a cig from someone somewhere when I catch it's scent.... :)

You should try to grow it, even if you don't smoke it, it's a beautiful fun plant to grow!

I think I will! If nothin' else for more seeds! Thanks! :)

Good luck <3 You got this!

I am going to do this next year. Cool post and video to go with it. You do know that the elite have made it so the majority of people rely on them for sustenance and literally want to make it so everyone beside them die right?

Yes, they'll want to keep a few slaves around that's for sure, because what fun would it be without people to order around and make do all their work for them. Humanity must rise up, I know things will have to get a lot worse before most people look outside of their comfortable bubbles, and see reality for what it is.

Yes we do have to rise up but we have to know our enemy and they do think that way, Everyone but them is expendable I think its going to take more than just peace & love to get rid of that ideology. just an opinion.

Continue your good work. You are a sympathic truth warrior! Hope you upload to Dtube soon when its working properly ! Fuck Fakebook, Youtube and the rest of the centralized brainwash platforms. Decentralize everything!
store-3.jpg

Hi @elgeko! I have been using Dtube for all my new vlogs and videos, this was an older video that's why the youtube link, and I agree, FUUUUUCK them. I have been having pretty good luck so far with DTube, I find all my videos upload very smoothly, if I compress them.

I'm happy to meet you, another awakened individual here on Steemit!! xoxoxo :) Much Love and thanks for the photo, I truly resonate with it, and we can create the world on the right if enough of us can work together!

Oh my, you are an absolute genius and that's so cool. I'm heading to Canada when the World goes to pot, I'll tend to your tobacco fields for a pack or two. ;-D Super human being!

Awwww *blushes!

Well, first I need some fields but if the world goes to shit, then I think I'll be able to finally find some that don't need a mortgage! LOL!!

Lol! You never know, there might be mortgage brokers in a post apocalyptic world Lyndsay. ;-)

Damn woman - you got an amazing handful of leaves right there!

So you plant the seeds in late March? And then water them from the bottom?

I'd love to try this next year. Maybe when I get a few more Steem Dollars I can send a few your way in exchange for some seeds? (I just powered up and spent the rest of my allowance on a custom trading card from @steemitadventure (!!!) but should have some funds coming sooner or later...)

Are you going to air-dry or flue-cure the leaves? What about cutting and rolling them? I can't wait to see the rest of the process!

Yeah our curing method needs some serious work, we really need a set up for it. Last year I dried them on my herb drying line in my kitchen. The leaves didn't get that nice golden brown colour. Growing it is the easy part...curing it...is a bit of a bitch if you don't have the right tools...we'll get there eventually.

This year instead of drying it in the house, I'm trying to dry it in the greenhouse. Will see how it goes...

I'd gladly send you some seed, any way you want to send me your address, just shoot it over and I'll get em off to ya.

Oh wow that's absolutely immense!
Well done you - as a smoker, that's the stuff of dreams, being able to grow you're own.
Big thumbs up to you!!

You've developed quite the green thumb! You should start instructional videos!

Thanks a lot my friend :) I think one day I may evolve into doing that, I haven't learned the skill of editing videos yet, it's on my to do list though!! I gotta up my game!!

How awesome!!! I should consider growing tobacco for my husband.
I can only imagine the cost savings.

Love this post. I would love to grow Tobacco. I might just try this next season. Wonder if you have ever tried growing it indoors. Would love to see you do a post about harvest to cigarette so to speak. You must have to just dry the leaves and then crush them up I would assume. Fellow smoker here. LOL Where are you located again? Which country and growing zone? Thanks

We're near Peggy's Cove, and the biggest of our plants are in the greenhouse :)

oh that is right we have spoken before about Peggy's. LOL I meet so many on here.

Understandable! :)

These are really huge leaves. Well done. Now you need a lot of space to dry them. :-)

You've got a true talent.

what a great idea - it would be illegal in Australia and that just shows how backward thinking our government is

My grandpa used to grow tabaco , i was amased how fast and how resistent the plants are . I smoke Dunhill , and sometimes i buy a bag of 50 gr of tabaco.

P.S. Have i told you that you are gorgeous ? Hope your husband tells you that every day.Your smile makes me blush

Ooh yes, my husband is the BEST! :) :) :)

Yeah, the plants are totally awesome hey!! :) :) :)

Interesting post.
I've thought it might be kind of fun to try and grow tobacco. What zone do you need to be in and what kind of soil does it like.
Have you considered doing an expanded post about growing it. Seems like you covered how to start the seedlings, what do you do next?
Maybe I need to go do some research before I start asking a bunch of questions that I could easily find on the net.
Anyhow, very interesting.

Where do you live John? My hugest tobacco plants were the ones I have in the greenhouse. My outdoor ones aren't nearly as huge.

I'm in Southern Indiana, zone 6a. Not necessarily looking for supper big, just thought it would be fun to grow a plant or two.

That is awesome. I tend to have a black thumb. lol I'm determined to get a garden going next spring though... but to be honest I've said that the past two years. :)

Your video is interesting and you dont see much tobacco growing posts on steemit. Good for you on the originality. Upvoted and following you. Btw, you are very beautiful. You should be a model or an actress. Love your videos and pictures. It was fun to watch you talk.
