We "Grow Food Not Lawns" With No Fertilizer Or Pesticides And Look At This JUNGLE!

in gardening •  7 years ago  (edited)

I'll show you around our beautiful, small homestead today and you can see how we've transformed it into an edible paradise.

(12:40)

And I apologize for the length of this video, I usually try to keep things nice and short and sweet, but dayam it's hard to show you all of our gardens now as things have turned into jungle madness!

Gotta go out to my front "lawn" now and get supper...smiles...

Much Love everyone, I hope you're having a beautiful day.

Awesome, I love organic. My son got a lot of heavy metal poison, buying organic out there still don't really trust them. I wish I have time to do that.

Oh, I'm really sorry to hear about your son :'( That is just terrible...and I know what you mean about the store organic, it's hard to trust, since anyone with enough money could likely just bribe/buy the organic label...I wish you were able to grow too, maybe start with something small, that doesn't need a lot of work, like green beans, or even sugar peas. Lettuce is very easy as well.

Thanks for sharing the video

Love it. Who wants to cut a lawn anyway.LOL I live in Canada, and the rules in Ontario or at least in my smaller community state that I cannot plant anything on my front lawn area, except shrubs and a tree, and it has to stay within 5 feet from the street. It's so sad.

Oooh Yeah gotta love rules that make no sense hey?! Just sad... :(

What a gorgeous bountiful yard you've got there

Thank you very much for stopping by Jeff! :)

Yup he got a very beautiful lawn 😊😊

Thank you for the tour of your beautiful homestead.

My grandma on mom's side was a marvelous gardener, and I have often regretted that I did not learn more from her. Your home and yard remind me of some of the cottages in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where my grandparents lived for a while. I also remember some Canadian relatives who had a tobacco farm...

Thanks for the beautiful video! I can see that you and your family are blessed!

😄😇😄

@creatr

Aw, thank you for coming over Creatr! I appreciate that you took the tour and that it reminds me of where your Grandparents lived <3 <3 <3 I have no one in my family that grew a lot of veggies, and I can attest that you don't need much skill to grow a garden, plus, we got the internet now, and there's so much info for anyone interested! xoxoxo I appreciate you too!!

I like your "Lawn" ... Mowing is such a waste of Resources.. i just do enough mowing so that the kids have a nice place to play...

Thank you very much Primal Buddhist! I'm sure your local ecosystem thanks you for leaving your grasses and wild flowers nice and tall, there is so much beauty in a rugged yard, I don't care about the bugs...we need bugs! Especially bees! Good on ya :) :)

We have 8 acres 5 is woods 3 was a field when we bought it.. . i just mow a little yard for a play set ... It's pretty incredible actually the weeds are all feed for the wild animals... So many rabbits of different size the yard must be full of nests.. you can get within 5 feet of them before they run away.. I don't allow my dog to chase them, but i don't scold her for eating the new borns she finds..
so many rabbits .. A mated pair of Owls lives nested just inside the tree line in a dead standing tree...
We also have a pet female Giant Flemish with no mate... that may keep them breeding in that area.. that, and the abundance from the weeds... We regularly see deer and turkeys.. We gave up chickens until i get the chicken coop predator proofed..
between the owls, raccoons, opossums, and foxes, we lost all our ducks too..

Oh wow! It sounds like a real paradise, I love your description of all the life you have there. Walking outdoors must be so exciting for your kids. You're living the good life, and really being one with nature.

I definitely hear you about the chickens, it would be hard to free range there, they'd be dinner!! So sorry to hear about your ducks :'( Heart breaking!!!

We Loved having free range chickens and ducks... of course the kids loved it too.. !! For now we just have to be content watching the bunnies and other critters.. A Doe raised to fawns in our backyard.. That was probably the highlight of the Summer..

Omg...beautiful, do you have any photos? I would LOVE to see her and her babies!

i just might... but they are not very good

I would appreciate <3

This is awesome! I wish more and more people wake up and ditch the vanity of having a "lawn" and put in hard work to maintain vegetable gardens thus improving their health. Upvoted and following you now.

Thank you VERY much Ajain! I appreciate that. I would love if more people traded their lawn for a garden, with the prices of food, I can't understand why not. Perhaps everyone is too busy working, yet, I can attest that the garden is really not that much work, beyond planting and a bit of weeding, and the harvest...those 3 things are just one weekend each. How often do we spend a weekend just shopping, or doing chores...

Excellent post
I wait for your next post

Thank you my crazy Canuck friend!! Effin EH!!!!! Love you!!!

I love your garden! Everyone should utilize their space to grow food even if it is just an apartment balcony. It's so rewarding!

Thank you very much! You are so right, there are a plethora of plants that grow just great in containers, it would be a beautiful thing indeed to see every balcony overflowing with food, and heck, even the roofs of the buildings too!

I love your lawn jungle, beats a boring grass yard any day of the week.
