Planted An Avocado Tree: Part 2 - I See Roots!

in gardening •  8 years ago

It's been 22 days since I planted my avocado tree pit and hoped that the little thing would grow a tree. I was starting to give up hope and figured the pit was a dud. I was very surprised when I went outside today and saw a sight I really wanted to see...roots!

An avocado tree is the easiest plant to grow. Buy an avocado from the grocery store, remove the pit, wash it off, and stick it in dirt with a little water. They like dry conditions so they are hard to kill if you forget to water them. I think the longest I went without watering one was over a month. It was still in great condition when I finally did water it.

Take A Look At That First Root!

This last picture you can see in the center of the crack something that looks like a worm...that's the first root. Over the coming days it'll get bigger and head down into the dirt. Once roots are established the green of the tree should start coming out of the top. It's exciting to see an avocado tree in it's early stages of life.

I'll keep posting updates as it grows so everyone can see the life cycle of a young avocado tree.

This is neat! I had 0 luck starting mine out from seed so I had to go to the nursery and buy a pair of trees.
Good luck with your seedling!
