Vertical Gardening

Vertical gardening is becoming more more popular every day.
Not only does it allow you to save space, it is also a way to keep slugs away from your precious veggies.

Be Selective

Although verticale gardening is a very good solution for a lot of crops, you should be careful in your decisions on what to grow vertically. For some crops, doing so is just asking for trouble.

Learn Through Experience

Last year, and the year before, I experienced no trouble growing my watermelons vertically, instead of letting them grow on the ground. After all, I could only harvest two tiny watermelons.

What a difference with this year...

I don't know why, but this year's watermelons are growing huge. The climbing pant is simply not able to carry their weight.

The Simple Solution

So I had to come up with a solution to save the melons from breaking the plant.
At first, I thought about making some sort of hammock that could carry their weight.

But the it struck me: there was an easier way. Using some rope, I made some sort of basket. This basket would allow growth, but would also be able to carry the weight of the melon. Simple, but genious, if I may say so myself, lol.

I'll probably use the same system to support my growing sugar melons and squashes.

To me, that's one of my favorite parts of gardening: finding a creative solution to unexpected problems :0)

Are you into vertical gardening? I am curious to hear about the solutions you've come up with for unexpected problems,

@organicgardener,
Wow, excellent Quality post and I like your Content, so definitely a follow and a like!
And a great idea with the rope. What remembers me of something that I saw on Youtube. Some farmers put the Watermelons in square boxes and so they could shape them to Watermelon Qubes.

Greetings @experimentel
