POST # 40,000 FROM PAPA-PEPPER - USING TOMATO CLIPS FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!

in gardening •  7 years ago

Wow, I can't believe that I've manually made 40,000 posts and comments on steemit since I first joined, almost two years ago!

In that time, my life has changed a lot, and there have been a lot of firsts for me that I've shared with all of you. This is another. Enjoy it!

USING TOMATO CLIPS VIDEO

HERE’S WHAT I’M UP TO!

Since I'm done using tomato cages, I wanted to be prepared to succeed in other options. This is just one of many bags of tomato clips that I ordered recently. As I attempt to run my tomato plants along cattle panels and sections of fencing, these should really help.

Rather than trying to weave the growing plants through the fencing, I can now clip the stems to the metal. This will make things easier and prevent me from breaking the stems.

This plant may look a little interesting sprawled out like this, but I am optimistic about the potential results of this method. I'm still learning and experimenting, but I think it'll work!

Here is another closer image to help you see how these clips work. I hope that they do no deteriorate, because it would be great to be able to use them for years to come. We will see!

If this works the way that I think it will, I'll be able to have large "walls" of tomatoes to harvest later in the year. Some plants are already bearing fruit, so we are getting excited. What do you think? Will my idea work? Also, have you ever used tomato clips before?

Thanks for all of your support and encouragement as I've enjoyed my time on steemit, making these first 40K posts and comments!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Thanks to you and your family for being so supportive of #steem

How come the clips are better than cages? What type of tomato are you growing? Do you need to pluck the stems that don’t produce!

I just think that tomato cages are inferior technology. They are too small, too flimsy, and cost too much.

Thank you for sharing your awesomeness with us sir! @papa-pepper

Thank you for checking it out!

Congratulations on your posts! Wow that’s a lot of posting 😮

Woohoo! 40G Posts! Holla! Awesome Accomplishment Papa-Pepper!! I've never used those tomatoe clips before. I just use twist ties or jute to tie tomatoes up. I don't like cages either. Good luck growing lots of juicy delicious 🍅!!

You sure make gardening look fun and so easy. Nice dreads by the way.

Congrats @papa-pepper you made the 40k post!

Success dear friend @ papa-pepper

Thank you very much my friend!

Is your reason for doing awaywith cages to save space? I've got limited room, and I've been trying to think of a way to use my space more efficiently, especially for those bulky tomatoes!

Wow, you are so amazing, so many ways you can get me very much experience from every post you @papa-pepper.

Pretty cool! I might try this method next time. I always have issues w my tomato plants being overwhelmed by the weight of the fruit. I was thinking of getting some hanging planters and trying that. Anyway, I hope it works out but I don’t see why not. Good luck and happy harvest! 🤗🍅

Nice seeing you with crop (Tomato, meaning you are more diverse in talent and business. keep pushing your vision so diligently sir

40.... thousand! :o what a rolemodel and inspiration. I saw myself wining after 200 posts, that it was hard... you deserve to be where you are. Hard work pays off! Here, have my baby plankton vote!
Best wishes

It has been a lot of hard work. Late nights, early mornings, making friendships and interacting! Thanks!

I can imagine! thanks for the inspiration!

This is the first time I a seeing tomato clips in action. I think this is an awesome idea. I had been using white plastic multi-purpose cable ties. Unfortunately, you can only use them for one growing season but they were an improvement over tomato cages.

Any improvement over a tomato cage is a step in the right direction!

@papa-peeper I have never used these Tomato Clips either. I think that your tomatoes will do wonderfully with the help of these clips................

I hope so!

Wow grwat feat...40,000 is a whole lot. But you practically carry us along in your farm, into the wild, experiences with @little-peppers and it has been a great experience also since I've been following.

Keep Steeming!

Yeah, I like to take you all with me! Thanks for coming along!

Brilliant! These clips look much better than string. I'll be curious to see if tomatoes ripen more uniformly than when they are bunched up. Thanks for the tip.

Nice! I had not thought of that!

I love watching your evolution!

There are no tomato cages down here! We make our own lattice with bamboo, and use thin cord to lightly tie off the plants, much like the clips. We only do small cherry tomatoes, the strains of big tomatoes act weird and often seem damaging to their own plant due to girth.

Congratulations! Wow that's a lot of writing. But you have great content. Beside learning a lot I'm sure you have taught your readers so much. Those clips are an interesting concept I think we could use them for some of our creeper type plants. The blackberries tend to get out of control. I think it'll give a more "natural" feel than cages?

haven't seen your clips over here, I used the twisty ties that came by the dozen with kitchen plastic bags.
the boss was going to throw them out anyway. so they did a job first.
watch out for the birds coming to have a free feed with the crop spread out like that for them.

I'll be on the look out! Thanks!

Will the size of the vine branch get too big and be strangled by the clip?

Holy damn that's a lot of posts... Gonna follow you just out of curiosity now.

I am also using them for the first time, i like the fact they can be unclipped and moved as needed. Time will tell. I will post a follow up after a few weeks.

I'll have to check those out as I am growing tomatoes up a cattle panel for the first time this year. ALSO congrats on the 40,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As first, congratulations on your 40,000th post! Unbelievable!
You are a true inspiration for consistency and persistence, especially to those of us (like I am) who have been here almost as long as you but can't boast not even with 10% of the number of posts and comments that you managed to achieve.

Regarding tomatoes, I think your "tomato wall" would turn out just fine, and I'm really curious to see how big your tomatoes are going to be. 🙂

Congrats on 40,000 posts. A great milestone and here is to 40,000 more!
