Hello Steemians Friends,

Gardening becomes an exciting job if done casually. For that, I will add a little bit of your knowledge on how to multiply the plants. As for this time, I'm will explain how to do plant propagation by Cutting.

As for multiply the plant in this way we have done practiced in Vocational High School Bustanul Yatama, North Aceh and this way 100% successful we do in multiply the plant.

Cuttings are plant propagation by planting parent trees into the media to grow into new plants. Parts of planted plants can be roots, branches, leaves or buds. Propagation by cuttings is very easy to do because it does not require complicated tools and techniques. The advantage of this technique is to produce new plants in large quantities even if the available planting material is very limited.

As for the practice of how to Cuttings that we do in Vocational High School Bustanul Yatama, North Aceh, can be explained below.

Based on the origin of the plant part used, there are several kinds of cuttings.

Stem cuttings

Called stem cuttings because the planting material is taken from the stem or branch of the parent tree. Some plants that can be propagated by stem cuttings are water guava, passion fruit, orange, pomegranate, avocado and grapes and some types of ornamental plants such as bougenvil, hibiscus, roses and jasmine.

Entres for stem cuttings should come from healthy mother trees and not budding. Choose one year old stuff, dark green leafy brown.

The minimum cutting branch is 1 cm in diameter, taken from the center of the branch approximately 0.3 cm below the lowest shoot and 1 cm from the top shoot. Then branches are cut along 15-20 cm with 3-4 eye buds in each piece. Branch cutting done in the morning by using scissors.

Root Cuttings

Although it has no bud eyes, the roots can sprout shoots on the walls or on the scraps that Klaus has emerged. Plants that can be propagated in this way include cypress, guava, tangerine and breadfruit.

The roots of the cuttings should be lateral roots, ie roots that grow side-to-side with the ground. We recommend that you select an easy root that is 1 cm in size or as large as a pencil because it is faster to bring up the roots than the old roots.

Roots that have been taken then cut into pieces 5-10 cm using a razor blade or knife to produce a clean and flat cut. The root part close to the base of the stem is cut erect.

Root cuttings are sown in 7-10 cm thick sand medium. its position can be upright or laid. If sowing upright, the base part is immersed into medium as deep as 3-5 cm or half of cutting length, with spacing between 4-5 cm. meanwhile, if sowing the way laid, cutted enough arranged in rows spaced 5 cm, then covered the sand as thick as 2-3 cm.

Media seedlings should always be moist for cuttings to produce many shoots and roots. Therefore, the media are watered twice daily in the morning and afternoon. Seedlings should be wrapped in plastic to keep the moisture high so that the growth of roots and shoots become faster.

Leaf eye cuttings

Shoot buds are usually done to multiply pineapples, grapes, and ornamental plants such as dieffenchia and aglonema. The stems for the cuttings are removed from the stems of healthy and fertile parent plants, then cut into 2-4 cm long pieces. each piece of stem must have one large and round shoot eyes. Then, the base and cutting tip are tilted at an angle of 45 degree.

Seed sowing in polybag or wooden box containing medium of mixture of sand and compost with ratio 1: 1. You do this by placing the cuttings on the surface of the media, then covered with sand reports. The position of the bud eye should remain on the surface of the media. Flush the media until wet, then cover with clear plastic or translucent glass.

Place the nursery in a cool place with a temperature of no more than 20 degree Celsius. within 1-2 months the buds have sprouted buds and roots. The new plant can be transferred to the enlarged polybag after 2-4 weeks of age when the roots are sufficiently thick and the leaves are perfectly open.

Propagation by cuttings is very easy to do because it does not require complicated tools and techniques. The advantage of this technique is to produce new plants in large quantities even if the available planting material is very limited.

But not all plants can be propagated by cuttings. Only plant that can survive long after separated from the parent tree that can be propagated by this technique, such as wine, breadfruit, water apple, passion fruit, avocado and several types of oranges, and ornamental plants.

Just like the plant result of multiplication grafts, plants cuttings propagation also does not have the root of the riding so easy to collapse sat blown angina fast. Therefore, the plant propagated by cuttings can only be planted in locations where the surface of the groundwater is shallow.
