This arabica coffee, known as the Gayo Coffee (Gayo Mountain Coffee), is now able to compete with arabica coffee produced by countries in the African continent, Latin Amerita (especially Bazil) and some Asian countries such as Vietnam and Thailand in the world coffee market. But the question is, to what extent is the existence of arabica coffee is able to lift the economy and improve the welfare of Gayo society?

Economic Prospects for Gayo Coffee Cultivation
Today coffee seems to be the most important commodity for farmers in some areas of Aceh-Central. Some of the supporting factors are the cultivation aspect which is relatively controlled by the farmers, the less complicated crop maintenance, can produce cash money every week, and the relatively stable price even experience the recent uptrend.
This condition is a good sign for the farmers and indeed started to trigger the increase in the seriousness of the farmers manage the garden and the expansion of the area.
When viewed to international prices, also experienced an upward trend. This is based on price data in the New York market for Other Mild Arabicas (OMA) types from the ICO website. Indonesian arabica coffee goes to OMA group. Throughout the year 2016, there is a monthly price increase trend of about 4 percent / month. A number that is also quite promising.
over the past three decades, Gayo Arabica coffee has made an important contribution to the Gayo community economy. The economic sector of the Gayo Highlands is almost totally dependent on this plantation commodity. What happens, if Gayo does not have coffee, would be difficult to imagine. So also with the problem of food security, almost all access food needs in Gayo depend on this arabica coffee. Gayo's purchasing power on food products also greatly depends on the income of their coffee plantations.
In addition to being able to support the community's economy, activities in arabica coffee farms absorb relatively a lot of local labor, this labor is mainly allocated for harvesting activities. With appropriate climatic support our arabica coffee can be harvested throughout the year, albeit with various variations in production fluctuations.
That is, seasonal unemployment (seasonal unemployment) that often occurs in the crop sector annual, decreasing with the commodity of this arabica coffee. With only two indicators (income and employment), it is certain that the development of arabica coffee contributes positively to the region's economy.
