Well a day at the farm for me, want to see it?

It started around 9am with picking some apples for jam and cider.

I had never noticed before today, that this apple tree on the drive, has two different type of summer apples, red on the left, green on the right, neat uh?

I like my cider a little sharp tasting, with a smooth after taste, to get this I use 5 different type of apples, some of them cooking apples also.

I spent around 1 hour collecting 20 kilo for tomorrows brew up of cider, most of them I picked from the floor, they are guaranteed ripe then, the only thing to watch with floor apples, is wasps having lunch on them, they go for the most ripe, and sweetest ones, you could imagine the feeling in a finger or two if you picked one of them up.

I checked out the carrots and beets, still not ready.

We are leaving the last of the tomatoes also for now, as they die off, those are onions behind and raspberries.

My daughter picked the last of the raspberries, and sat and ate them lol.

We still have sunflower seeds to harvest, so what I thought was the last days harvest is no way near yet, maybe next week eh!

That last patch above is strawberry plants that seem to be spreading around nicely.

The good lady set off with the bad boy above strapped to her, I did not see her again for 4 hours ish, except a few times.

P1110707.JPG

Now I know what you are thinking, cut the grass you scruffy git, and why is she doing that not me, well she chose to, and yes I spent 4 hours cutting grass also.

P1110708.JPG

I cut the courtyard (golf course hole number 1 ) and hole number 2, the other 7 holes can wait till spring now.

P1110712.JPG

I even did the drive, big up for me.

P1110709.JPG

We were supposed to be having a bbq for lunch, and simply forgot, by the time I got the smaller bbq out (black bertha) it was 4pm.

One rack of ribs, some sausages for my baby girl, and off we went again with gardening and even the petrol chainsaw came out for 3 hours.

Well it looks like I left it a little late for the grapes, always next year though.
Not sure why my ladies camera is so erratic with photo colour, maybe it is just a little old now and outdated, oh well I shall get my camera out next time.

Well it is 8.15 pm and we have not long finished, so a nice shower and soak for the good ladies first, then the same for me, have a superb weekend one and all.*

Wow this is a great kind of post. Wonderful real pictures of real work and a real life going on.
Is everything being grown organic? If so what kinds of Pests do you encounter? Who do you prep the soil? Are you composting for fertilizer?

Have you been to @quochuy s blog? He is a vermiculture kinda a guy lots to learn from him and his website about growing worms. Here is the latest work from him here

I will ask the wife to get you a link to the big group she is a part of that has so many great ideas for growing your own food. I really think this is one of the only ways we can overcome the system we hate. Is to do our own thing and eat fresh home grown food just like our grandparents did.

Having a big battle right now with some credit card company trying to force me to pay an airline for cancellation fees. Almost 2500 USD total. WTF why is it my responsibility to carry the Airline if they cant do good business? How is it a law if someone writes terms that are unreasonable? Honestly if you dont get a service you don't owe any money! How do I owe them 2500 USD for nothing?

Yes all organic for us, though the free food project I let the locals manage, and they were spraying the fields, up to them, they are eating it, I just let them use the land, and they are more experienced than I.

Everything we grew on the 3 patches you see in the photos we only used nettles that we left to ferment for pesticide, it stinks like cow dung, though the insects will not come near it, I learnt this the first year here, after noticing anything growing next to nettles, bugs stay away, hence I made it a pesticide.

The soil is different in all 3 patches, some will need lime and fertilizer this Autumn, all will be fertilized using cow dung from the cows we had grazing, plus some we are buying in.

It is 5 past midnight regards to people needing to grow food, not grass, I have been saying it for 5 years, stop mowing lawns and grow food, nobody listens though.

Credit card companies have a direct duty to protect you the customer, not the airline, you can read that in their terms and conditions, it should be clearly stated.

@marcstevens .net may help you avoid paying in court.

There's a lot to be said for a good, simple life. Enjoy what you've got.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

I spent most of my life in cities, and in comparison this is heaven, hard work yes, worth it absoluteness, I could not imagine bringing my daughter up anywhere else now.
Cheers my friend, have a superb weekend.

I'm the opposite. I spent most of my life and grew up in rural areas. Your pictures remind me of my grandparents' farm and apple orchard. Now I live in the city, and I always enjoy the opportunity to go back and visit the simpler life when I get the chance.

Cheers as well. Enjoy the weekend.

That looks like a little piece of heaven (although I don't know if you have to do the mowing yourself up there). All the same, a beautiful place to bring up a child :-)

It is, and yes I do :-) although at times we have help from 15 or so cows, from a farm down the road, he brings them to graze, win win situation.

And that was why we moved here, for my daughter, Birmingham was no longer safe.

Have a superb weekend, hows sunny Spain?

Forget sunny Spain, that's for sissies. I do Arizona in the summer!😬

Get in there, likes ya style much.

P1110746.JPG

No mucking about there mate getting right into it :)

I was hoping you were going to give a recipe for your five apple cider. It's expensive here, usually six dollars a gallon, in the fall the price goes down a bit but not much.

I am doing that post later today, it is simple and very cheap, no yeast required, just apples, sugar and water.
