A present for my garden:

Santa's been! What is it?

A giant bag of mulch! Lifted a wall panel to get to it.

The garden's version of a chimney 😆.

Must protect the grass from the sun!

Spready spready bucket helpers.
All done! Garden sunscreen applied before 8am.

All this happened on the 21st Dec. I had asked Leon who runs a garden service on my area if I could get a couple of bags of lawn clippings and leaves to use in the garden as mulch. He was happy to give me some but it took a while to collect what I needed. I was out when he dropped off the bag so he left it on the sidewalk. I had no idea that the bag would be a Cubic meter big and about half full! Lynton dragged it into the courtyard when we got home that night and early the next morning I set out to sift and spread it.
I didn't get a photo of my very high tech sieve. It involved an old plastic laundry basket, chicken wire and cable ties, those bits of plastic that keep the world together :)

I spread the large leaves over the flower beds and kept the crushed bits for the grass. It was quite a job but I'm happy to report that it has worked and the grass is actually managing to stay alive. The pile of dry grass/ straw had previously been serving as shade. Any weeds or dead plants just go on top of the soil for either shade or mulch. It's very messy but it's all I can do right now.

We had some wonderful rain on Newyears, which was very useful in keeping the party noise levels down and made for a lovely cool day.
Lynton moved the trees into the shade for me. They were getting owned by the sun against that wall. Since their move they've been getting on well and are making new leaves. I'll move them back around March/April.

What do you have planned for your garden this year?

Hope you have a good week!

Your backyard is really coming along. You just moved there not too long ago, right? My plans are mostly further terraforming becayse the previous habitant kinda didn't keep up with anything outside

Thank you :)
Lol :) Terraforming sounds about right! It's amazing how a garden can fall almost into dispair if left untended.
Yes we moved in in Feb last year so almost a year ago. The drought really took a toll in spite of all the laundry water going to the plants but it's still better than it was. I will do another walk through soon. I'm proud of my butterfly bushes 🙂

I love butterfly bushes. Yeah we are talking mulch beds with no mulch, uneven timbers around them, strange placement of various wood/ brick/ cement blocks for enclosures .... kind of like he had tbe right idea but ran out of what he needed so was just like this cement block with do the trick. Pieced together haphazardly is a nice way of saying it.
