On the occasion of this International Women's Day there is no more suitable plant to end this empowering day than with this Dama de la Noche, Queen of the Night. Dragon-Fruit is her little sister.

A beautiful night bloomer that is native to tropical climate from Mexico, Jamaica, Cuba, Haïti and the rainforest to Asia. But beware with to much sunlight she can be sunburned. This Queen of the night blooms a few hours before midnight and is pollinated by fruit-bats, unfortunately her flowers fall in the early morning but her fruits and stems are edible.

It is not a melody that will attract you towards her but her magnificent sweet scent that will tell you that she is blooming and when you actually smell and see meet her in ultimate beauty you can make a wish.

Yes, this flower is beautiful! In our yard the queen of the night grew and when she bloomed we went out with a flashlight at night to look at her. But one of neighbors cut it off ... I really like cacti, I have more than 100 of them.

Wow, more than 100 is a lot. Cactus is not my nr.1 favorite but the night blooming stole my heart and a few others but I don't want the Prickly pear in my garden because they jumped toward my legs to much and that hurts haha.

Amazing photography

Thank you drphysiatre. Amazing flowers make amazing pictures.

Just lovely!

Thank you. I am not really into cactus it is the flowers that makes it all worth it.

I do like cacti. I've got a few Lophophoro Williamsii at home. They are still very small and haven't bloomed yet.

Peyote, you can combine them with the San Pedro and make space tea.

They are still a bit small for that hypothetical ;)

Patience is a good virtue

Beautiful plant and flowers it looks similar to a succulent that I have seen here in South Africa, but that one blooms in daytime. Thank you for sharing!

Hi hope777 yes there are several day bloomers, here we have the Prickly pear. other day bloomers are all from the same family, Dragon Fruit is also from the same family and succulent too because they all store water.
