So just over a week has passed since my last post on the little experiment I was doing with bokashi tea. So a progress report on the chilli seedlings…on the left water only …and on the right watered with extremely diluted bokashi tea twice a week.
Clearly the bokashi appears to be beneficial.
Now just a quick stop by the garden bed where I planted the courgette seedlings as shown in the previous post. The plants have taken well, we spread a bit of mulch, and continue to fill the water bottles three times a week.
The circled plant is removed from the newspaper and compost area and is clearly struggling to keep up despite getting the same amount of water. I believe the layers of newspaper assist in retaining the moisture as well as preventing the compost being leached away when watering.
On the aside, I was NOT impressed to see our olive tree is dropping fruit quite alarmingly.
I threw buckets of water around the tree in case it was just struggling with the hot weather and a reduced water table due to the drought conditions. It will be sad if we are not able to bottle olives this season.
The container plants are doing well…. Just snapped a pic as I left of these two
I think I must suggest a Courgette Recipe challenge on the Cooking tag soon
As always, thanks for reading and comments are always welcome !!

Drought sure reveals a lot about what plants need and what they like. Your 3 courgette examples (compost and newpaper mulch, no compost or newspaper, planter) sure show a difference. Hang in there and we'll all keep hoping for rain!

That's a long time, wow! You are doing what you can, though. {hug to your plants}
