Depends where you live but if it is really hot spinach goes straight to seed.
It's best to plant spinach late Summer when it starts to get cool and into the Autumn.

yeah, in our area it looks like we can't seed until around September. We're just in the planning stages right now. Haven't dug into seasonality completely.

Great tip! We've managed to keep ours going with the use of shade cloth so far. Planning to try lettuce under it next . . .
