We grow hundreds of medicinal and edible plants at the Garden of Eden. They are accessible, cheap, and/or free options for your own wellness, without the MANY dangers pharmaceuticals impose. Every aspect of life is better when you feel healthy and happy, and we seek to reconnect you to your roots and remind you of these options for your health. 

Allow us to share the blessings of nature and introduce you to one of the marvelous new plants we have added to our GOE Seed Bank:

PUMPKIN is a delicious and nutritious variety of squash that has lots of antioxidants, fiber, folate, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, copper, potassium, and manganese, as well as vitamins E, A, C, and some Bs. It boosts the immune system, improves vision, and enhances skin health. 

Pumpkin grows on vines that spread prolifically across the ground. Because they like so much space, it's great to give them their own patch. They do well near corn, but don't like to be next to potatoes.

Sow the seeds directly in the ground well after the last frost so the soil has had a chance to warm. They need very nutritious, well-drained soil as they soak up a lot of nutrients; work in compost or manure before planting for best results. Choose full sun to light shade. They have a long growing season that can last 100 days, although seeds will germinate and sprout 5-10 days after planting. 

Pumpkin is recommended for growing in zones 2-13.

​Harvest pumpkins when the skin is hard. You can press your fingernail into the pumpkin; if it leaves a dent but doesn't puncture the skin, you can cut the pumpkin off the vine.
