On Monday 14 May Israeli soldiers massacred 58 unarmed Palestinian protestors. The death toll included 6 children one of whom was a baby. Over 40,000 people took part in the protests of whom 2,700 were injured.
This massacre has pushed the overstretched medical services in Gaza to breaking point. Many essential medical items have run out while many medicines have run dangerously low.
Under siege by both Israel and Egypt and facing an indifferent international community the people in Gaza are in desperate need of our help. Dr. Andy Ferguson, who is the UK Director of Programmes for Medical Aid For Palestinians has noted how on Monday 1,319 people were admitted to hospitals in Gaza with gunshot wounds.
Dr.Ferguson has commented:
“Doctors in Gaza responding to the crisis have had so little to work with. Insufficient anaesthetic, few painkillers and sometimes not even enough bandages. Patients are in immense pain - they're suffering needlessly because of a lack of basic medicines and supplies’’.
Now more than ever the people of Gaza need ordinary people the world over to display solidarity with them. This can take many forms including political protests against Israel’s latest war crime. Along with this, there is an urgent need to get medical supplies to the hospitals of Gaza.
Please consider making a donation to Medical Aid For Palestinians (MAP). MAP is on the ground in Gaza providing life saving medical help to the thousands of wounded protestors.
