Screen Eyes

in gazing •  8 years ago

Did a snap back with my friend on Snapchat. She asked why I kept staring so long into the cam. I wasn't even aware of that. I guess I felt obliged to give the screen my fullest attention. But seriously what was I looking for or staring at? Actually this is an interesting question for the entire selfie space particularly the Snapchat and Instagram crowd. What are you gazing at selfie world? You can't find your face?

Must be pirate treasure hidden in those digital screens. They sure have stolen our vision and fitted us with mannequin eyes. We stare like zombies trapped between the real and the never never. Feels like there's no escape back to reality. Or is this the new reality and what we thought was the real is the actual hallucination. One last blinding gaze. A final hard stare and our eyes explodes in their sockets. We finally see our vanity and it burns our fragile consciousness.

Truth always in the eyes, glimmers of happiness, malevolence and apathy. Innocence stolen when we first saw the real. Are we trying to restore that innocence by really looking at self? Or is the fake too deep to heal to see beyond it?
