On December 24th 1945 the Sodder family's home was destroyed by a fire. The family consisted of George Sodder, Jennie Sodder and their 9 children in Fayetteville, West Virginia.

George, Jennie and four of the children managed to escape the fire but sadly the remaining 5 children didn't. After the after their bodies was also not found.

The family believed that the children survived so in 1950 they put a missing sign on State Route 16.

The sign remained there until Jennie sadly past away in the late 1980s.

The family had a theory that the children were taken by the Sicilian Mafia since George criticized Benito Mussolini and the Fascist government.

There are somethings that don't add up for instance, the children where sleeping in the attic and since the parents could not get to them by going up the stairs when George wanted to go up a ladder the ladder was not in it's usual place, a bucket that could have been used for water to extinguish the fire was completely frozen also when trying to pull 2 trucks up to the house to be able to reach the attic windows both trucks would not start even though they worked perfectly the day before.
