The day was set for the Big Jungle Football match; this match takes place every year at the Jungle stadium in Portugal.
No animals would ever want to play against the “Kings of the Jungle” team. One day the Zebra waned to try something new and decided to get a team together to play against the “Kings of the Jungle”. It was very tough for the zebra as no animals dreamt of joining this team. Finally, two months passed and the zebra had managed to put a team together with great difficulty and persuasion. The team consisted of the monkey, squirrel, warthog and the hyena. Their opponents were the lion, elephant, cheetah, bear, leopard and the giraffe. The zebra always tried to motivate the team by saying, “If we are united, no animals in the kingdom can do us any harm”.
Before the big game the Anunited team trained for, four hours every day for six months. The Jungle Kings would make fun and tease the other team, they would laugh at the squirrel how he would roll the ball and they thought the monkey was a useless goalkeeper. This would get the animals demotivated and they would at times want to give up, but the zebra encouraged the animals and would say “working together, we will succeed.”
The day finally arrived and it was “match day”, the Kings of the Jungle versus Anunited. This was going to be a tough game for Anunited, as the other team had animals that were faster, taller, stronger and had all the experience. During the game, the giraffe saved good shots but Anunited just could not score. In the Kings of the Jungle team, they all wanted to score and be the top goal scorer. The cheetah said to the leopard that he had scored three times more goals than he had, so that made the cheetah the top goal scorer.
It was half time and Anunited were losing 5-1. The Kings of the Jungle had no doubt that they were going to win the cup. Once again the zebra encouraged his team by saying that they could still win the game, as it was only half time and the game was not over yet. Then after a few seconds, the zebra said, “United we stand but if we divide, we will fail.” The warthog then responded “there is no hope as they are much bigger, taller, stronger and faster than us.” The zebra replied saying, “We cannot do everything by ourselves, as we must all work together because football is a team sport not an individual sport.”
The hyena and the buck shouted, “We are still in the game, let’s show them how to play football!” The squirrel said pointing at the other team, “look how they are quarrelling amongst themselves, unity is strength, let us listen to our captain.”
By now, both teams were drawing 5 -5, and there were five minutes left to the end of the game. The zebra shouted to the monkey, “Play up front and score the winning goal for us, as all of us have scored. Make us proud!” The monkey was nervous, but the team cheered him on. The squirrel rolled the ball to the warthog, which flung it to the hyena, which headed the ball to the buck, which kicked it to the monkey who chested it and kicked it in the top corner of the net. It was a goal! Anunited were leading, and the Kings of the Jungle were upset and were blaming the goalkeeper. The referee blew the whistle, the game was over. It was victory to Anunited.
The moral of the story is that there is no “I” in team, but when the team works together, it make a winning team.
Teamwork is the key.
