A movie about The Joker's origin story is in the works and you won't believe who is producing it.

Can you imagine if Jack Nicholson played his role in The Departed dressed like this:

Actually, maybe he tried.

How about if De Niro in Taxi Driver

Were replaced by:

Or Ray Liotta from Goodfellas

Was swapped for:

Ok. Maybe not the last one. But you get the idea.

What do The Departed, Taxi Driver, and Goodfellas all have in common?

  1. They are freaking awesome!

  2. They are all kind of like origin stories for villains.

  3. They all involved Martin Scorsese.

And so will the stand alone Joker movie.

Warner Brothers and DC are about to start production on The Joker's origin story. Martin Scorsese is going to produce it.

Let that sink in.

Scorsese knows how to make gangster origin stories. In the comic book universe, who is more gangster than The Joker?

Even though DC has let me down before, Scorsese's involvement gives me hope that they may actually get this one right.

Not only did DC bring in a heavy hitter to produce the movie (or is he THE HEAVIEST HITTER?) they also hired established writers to pen the script.

The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips will co-write the script with 8 Mile writer Scott Silver. If you have not seen 8 Mile, it actually is a pretty good origin story in its own right.

Rumor has it that the movie will go it's own direction and not include Jared Leto. The studio will most likely cast a younger actor in the movie.

The studio has not reported a targeted release date.

Should be incredible. I like Scorsese movies.

So apparently they're now trying to cast Leonardo Dicaprio using Scorsese ties. It's probably not going to happen but what do you think about that? Like for me based on the look of him I don't see the joker but could you imagine if they really dig deep and use some really freaking cool make up, maybe do the cut face thing and really go for it and combine some of of Dicaprio's sinister acting chops from Django Unchained we could get a really awesome Joker performance
