Yesterday I began experimenting with hosting a WordPress blog. The idea came to me earlier in the month, after thinking about the SteemPress plugin, designed by some enterprising Steemians.
I didn't act on it straight away. Initially I began pricing everything and considering whether it was feasible. In an interesting synchronicity, Digital Ocean sent me an email offering me $100 credit on my account which would expire in 60 days. The offer was given to encourage me to explore new upgrades in the features and interface. It didn't take much thought to decide that this was the perfect opportunity for taking a Digital Ocean droplet for a spin.
Yesterday I used the '1-click app' install to set up my WordPress blog. That was pretty cool in itself. Then I spent many hours toying around with themes, looking at plugins and considering how I was going to spend this $100 credit to maximum benefit in the sixty days allotted.
I want to use Let's Encrypt to provide a certificate for secure SSL connection. I already use that on my other blog 4b2.me/blog. Let's Encrypt is one of those beautiful services that seem to arrive to answer all my prayers. I discovered that it wasn't go to be a straightforward operation due to the automated setup I had chosen. It might have been better for me to take the more difficult path of following a tutorial and manually setting up the whole thing. At least then I would have some clearer insights into the whole process.
There is a lot to learn! For four days now I've been drawn deep into geek underworld. Submerged in information and technological energy. Like the alchemist searching for the philosophers stone. I've been really enjoying myself!
During those four days though, I've neglected to attend to many other things. One of them is my writing and other projects on Steemit.com. I'm not even sure if this is going to be the final incarnation of my Wordpress blog, but in the interests of getting some writing done, it was best to post something.
As I randomly punched away at the pallette button, zoomed in and out, slid back and forth, I finally felt this image represented the words I had in my mind, Alchemical Energy. This is the crackle of alchemical energy that surrounded me as I brought to bear my magical technological powers on the creative process. New life sprang from the mechanical world, infused with my blood, sweat, and tears. A Frankenblog of my own creation.
Alchemical Energy
