Saint Nicholas of Myra, also known as Santa Claus in modern day, once said, “The giver of every good and perfect gift has called upon us to mimic God’s giving by grace, through faith, and this is not of ourselves.”
How did he become known as Santa Claus or become so famous? He was widely known, and still is, for his generosity and kindness. One of the most told stories is that he saved three young women from being forced into prostitution. Tradition says that he threw the money through a window or down a chimney and this bag of money saved the women. There are many other stories that are told about him too.
When we look at grace, it is an unconditional acceptance from a divine Higher Power, or from someone else, that we are not worthy of having. So how can we live as Saint Nicholas did?
Oftentimes, in this day and age, the poor, impoverished, broken, drunk, drug addict, the person struggling with mental health, and the individual struggling with a medical problem are overlooked in mainstream society, and there are many reasons. I encourage you to go out today, find somebody who is unworthy according to mainstream society, and help them, without anything in return. Give a selfless act today.
Peace & love to all
