It was a chilly morning of the early spring 2018 when I was browsing through some news related to cryptocurrencies, blockchain and everything related to it. I stumbled upon an article about some hackers who planted some malicious JavaScript on some media website and harnessed the computing power of everyone coming to read the news on this very website. The harnessing was done without users consent so only IT geeks would spot this exploit by checking the CPU utilization monitor. The computing power was used to pool mine cryptocurrency directly to the hackers digital wallet. I found it illegal, unethical and fascinating at the same time and quickly started toying with the idea and turning the table so that the same technology could be used for something good (naturally with users consent).

I kept on reading about smart contracts and other features coming alongside decentralized ledger technology (DLT, a.k.a. blockchain) and quickly recognized how this technology with revolutionize and disrupt so many areas of our lives.

The transparency and re-definition of trust that comes with blockchain started our research on how to use it in conjunction with corporate social responsibility (CSR). We've teamed up with our CTO and concluded that not only we can let anyone with a computer donate their CPU power but also how to use blockchain to match this computing power with corporate companies which through their CSR programs could do something truly good, desired and transparent.

We've analyzed how the current crowdfunding websites work - many of them are well designed and have some really cool features. None of them however focuses on people who might not be reach enough to share their income. We've decided this was our opportunity and that's how Give Bytes was born.

Now it's time for the next chapter - let's see where this adventure takes us and if we can really disrupt fundraising.
